Houses are sinking, people live insecurely next to Thanh Da canal, Ho Chi Minh City
For over a week, people living along the Thanh Da canal (Binh Thanh district) have not yet recovered from the shock because many houses suddenly had large cracks, the foundations of the houses collapsed, and water flooded into their houses, disrupting their lives.
Recently, heavy rains have occurred in Ho Chi Minh City, causing severe flooding on many roads, including the Thanh Da canal bank (Binh Thanh district) where 13 households were seriously affected.
According to VTC News reporters, in the area where landslides occurred along the Thanh Da canal (section belonging to alley 886 Xo Viet - Nghe Tinh, ward 25, Binh Thanh district), many houses had large cracks and subsidence.
People living here said that on days of heavy rain, the river water rises and overflows the embankment, flooding the area, making their daily lives difficult.
Mr. Le Van Thanh (civil defense guard of Ward 25, Binh Thanh District) said that this is the first time this area has experienced serious landslides, so people are very worried. " No one dares to sleep at night, houses tilted and sinking like this, how can anyone dare to live there. Currently, some affected houses have been supported by local authorities to move to temporary housing ," Mr. Thanh said.
According to the reporter's observation, this area also has many deep water holes, posing potential risks to people living here.
The landslide is located on the right bank of Thanh Da canal, about 50 meters downstream of Kinh bridge. Currently, 13 seriously affected households have been supported by local authorities to relocate. However, some people who are not subject to relocation are still living in fear because the rainy season continues and many cracks appear on the walls of their houses.
Regarding the landslide situation in the Thanh Da canal bank area, a representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport said that the Department had met and assessed the landslide situation on the Thanh Da canal bank, and at the same time sought technical solutions to overcome the problem.
