In the final of the men's 800m freestyle, Nguyen Huy Hoang started off slower once again and finished in 6th place. However, after 150m, the Vietnamese swimmer had secured a position in the top 3 for almost the entire race. With only 100m left, Huy Hoang had the opportunity to compete for second place with Fei Liwei of the host country.
But Huy Hoang's efforts and determination could not succeed and he finished 3rd. The gold medal winner in this event was Korean swimmer Kim Woo-min with a time of 7 minutes 46 seconds 3, second place belonged to the host swimmer of China Fei Liwei with a time of 7 minutes 49 seconds 90. Meanwhile, although not equal to his achievement at ASIAD 18, Nguyen Huy Hoang still excellently finished 3rd with a time of 7 minutes 51 seconds 44.
Although he could not change the color of the medal at the largest sports event in Asia, Huy Hoang still expressed satisfaction with his achievements. "Compared to the initial competitions, today I have regained my best feeling. Although I am a bit regretful that I could not change the color of the medal, I have achieved my goal of winning a medal. Because winning a medal will help me feel more excited and comfortable," Huy Hoang shared after the final round.
After failing in the 1,500m event a few days ago, Hoang cried. But today, his bright smile has returned.
With this achievement, swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang has officially won a ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics when he exceeded the A standard in this event (the A Olympic standard is 7 minutes 51 seconds 65). Nguyen Huy Hoang also brought home the 11th bronze medal for the Vietnamese sports delegation at the 19th ASIAD.
