From the harsh, windy and sunny Central region, many Quang Tri people have ventured to start a business in Ho Chi Minh City. The qualities of perseverance, overcoming difficulties, and creativity of the people of the land of Lao wind and white sand have brought them success on their journey to start a business in the city named after Uncle Ho.

Starting a career from a side job

In 2006, Tong Quang Phu left his hometown of Cam Lo town, Cam Lo district, to enroll at Ho Chi Minh City University of Culture. In 2010, amidst the bustling life of the city, holding a university degree in hand, Phu's career journey began with many hardships.

Initially, Phu worked as an auto parts market employee for a Taiwanese (Chinese) company. After 2 years of hard work, Phu quit his job and joined an auto startup company based in District 1, operating nationwide.

“I studied culture but my daily work was related to... cars, so at first, my family and friends hardly supported me. I thought differently, if I was passionate about something, something that brought me joy and motivation to succeed, I had to pursue it. That was why I approached and mastered the job quite quickly. The experience and skills I gained during the 5 years I worked at this auto startup company and before that urged me to find my own path,” Mr. Phu recalled.

In 2017, Mr. Phu quit his job at the company and, together with a friend, opened a car care facility in Phu Nhuan district. At first, his knowledge, good skills, and the bustling car market did not bring him the success he expected, as the number of customers who wanted to beautify and add more convenience to their cars at the facility was not large.

After about two years of diligently grasping customer tastes and psychology, putting quality, reputation and reasonable prices first, Mr. Phu has initially achieved success on his career journey...

Now, this young man born in 1986 from Cam Lo has a happy family with his wife from the same hometown of Cam Lo town, owns the large-scale Mobile Car Care.vn brand, which can meet all stages of increasing utility and beautifying cars on Nguyen Thi Xinh Street, District 2, Ho Chi Minh City, an auto marketing and event organization company.

Mr. Phu's two establishments currently have 20 regular workers, including 8 workers from Quang Tri. With his capacity and reputation, each year Mr. Phu's establishment also provides vocational training for 10-15 workers. In addition, he also franchises the Mobile Car Care.vn brand to a number of establishments operating in this field in 5 provinces and cities across the country.

“Starting a business in Ho Chi Minh City is always a difficult journey. Therefore, everyone must equip themselves with the necessary knowledge, skills and the will to overcome difficulties and rise up,” Mr. Phu shared.

Bringing Non Son brand far and wide

Although he was very busy with work, when he heard that someone from the countryside was coming, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Ty, Executive Director of Non Son Fashion Company Limited, immediately enthusiastically arranged for me to meet at the company's "headquarters" in Hoc Mon district, Ho Chi Minh City.

Taking me to visit the factory area of about 14,000 m2 with many production lines, management and operation departments, and hundreds of workers working busily, Mr. Ty did not mention much about the formation and development process of this famous hat brand.

First appearing in the city market in 1996 with only products for women sold in a few stores, up to now, Non Son has more than 1,000 workers, employees and a system of more than 200 stores supplying products in all provinces and cities across the country.

For many people, especially young people in all parts of the country, fashionable hats, helmets, hats for playing sports... branded Non Son have become indispensable items in daily life and travel because of their sophisticated design, high aesthetics, suitable for all ages and durability, safe to use...

Head of the Liaison Committee of the Quang Tri Association in Ho Chi Minh City, Dao Xuan Thong, said that there are currently about 700 businesses owned by Quang Tri people operating in the area. These businesses not only contribute positively to the socio-economic development of Ho Chi Minh City but also act as a bridge of responsibility and affection for about 160,000 Quang Tri children in the Southern land, always looking towards their homeland with many meaningful activities.

The success of Non Son cannot be achieved without the role of Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Ty. Born in 1968, from Hai Hung commune, Hai Lang district, in 1991, Mr. Ty left Quang Tri to go to Ho Chi Minh City to start a business and then fell in love with the fashion industry. When Non Son was just established, Mr. Ty immediately joined this enterprise.

“Working at Non Son, the founder of this brand, Mr. Tran Anh Son, created the best working environment for me, to help steer Non Son to become a hat brand trusted by many people,” Mr. Ty shared.

Talking to me, the two words that Mr. Ty mentioned the most were “quality”, because according to him, this is the important thing that creates the value of the Non Son brand. Consumers choose Non Son hats not only because of their beautiful and fashionable designs but also because of their durability and safety. For example, to make a regular helmet, it must go through many stages or a high-end lacquer helmet product, an artist can only paint two each month with carefully selected raw materials and accessories, ensuring standards.

In Non Son, there are many workers from Quang Tri working in various departments, many of whom are spouses, siblings, and everyone is confident in sticking with the company with an average income of about 10 million VND/person/month and the policies and benefits are guaranteed according to regulations. To them, Mr. Ty is not only a leader with good thinking, vision and skills to bring the Non Son brand further and further, but also a person who carries the character of the land of Quang Tri with deep affection.

Desire to contribute to building the homeland

Interspersed with our conversation at the headquarters of Toan Phu CO., Ltd. (Toan Phu CO.), in Binh Hung Tay Ward, Thu Duc City, were many work-related phone calls between Mr. Le Huu Hoang, Director of Toan Phu CO., and the management and staff working domestically and internationally.

“The work is running according to plan, but sometimes we have to immediately solve problems that arise. For example, the transportation of equipment for a project to increase the capacity of a transformer station in Siem Reap province, Cambodia is currently facing some difficulties,” said Mr. Hoang.

Born in 1974, from Cam Thuy commune, Cam Lo district, after several years working in the transportation sector in Dong Ha, in 2002, Mr. Le Huu Hoang moved to Ho Chi Minh City to look for better job opportunities. With his ability, he was accepted by a multimodal transport enterprise of the Ministry of Transport. After several years as an employee, Mr. Hoang was appointed as deputy and then head of the department of transporting oversized and overweight goods of this enterprise.

When the company was equitized in 2019, realizing that he was not suitable for the new working environment, Mr. Hoang quit his job. Why not establish his own business specializing in transporting oversized and overweight goods? This question always troubled Mr. Hoang. With the support of family and friends, in 2020, Toan Phu CO. was established.

“The market share of transporting oversized and overweight goods has been bustling in recent years due to the implementation of many large projects, especially in the energy sector, but along with that comes fierce competition between businesses, so my company encountered many difficulties at first. The key is to adapt quickly, focus on quality, reasonable prices, and respect for customers to build the brand of the business,” said Mr. Hoang.

Currently, Toan Phu CO. has a team of managers, engineers, and employees of over 100 people, many of whom are from Quang Tri, along with dozens of heavy trucks, machinery, and equipment... Not only specializing in transporting oversized and overweight goods, the company also consults and supports customers with construction solutions and equipment import and export.

Since its establishment, Toan Phu CO. has served the construction of dozens of large projects, mostly wind power projects, large-scale transformer stations in Vietnam and Cambodia, Laos. In Quang Tri, Toan Phu CO. has undertaken the transportation of many equipment serving the construction of wind power projects Huong Linh 1, Huong Linh 7, Tai Tam, Gelex 2, Gelex 3, Huong Phung 2... in Huong Hoa district.

“Quang Tri is currently implementing many large projects on infrastructure and energy. Toan Phu CO. is promoting steps to participate in the process of providing transportation and equipment installation services for these projects as well as considering the possibility of opening a branch in Quang Tri. Contributing to the development of my hometown has always been my wish,” Mr. Hoang confided.

Starting a business far from home, amidst many difficulties and challenges, is also the time when the character of Quang Tri people is awakened and promoted. This has contributed to the formation of many successful Quang Tri businessmen in various fields in the bustling and colorful Southern land.
