During the 2024 lotus season, the People's Committee of Tay Ho district coordinated with the Fruit and Vegetable Research Institute and the Hanoi City Agricultural Extension Center to restore the Bach Diep lotus variety as part of the project "Building a lotus production model associated with developing ecotourism according to the value chain in Tay Ho - Hanoi" implemented from February 17 to November 15. |

Mr. Bui Manh Hieu - owner of the lotus ponds being restored at West Lake said that the lotus ponds are currently growing well and starting to bloom. "The first lotus flowers of the season taken from the lake are being harvested to make tea. It is expected that in half a month, the lotus flowers in the ponds will bloom and will be a destination attracting many people in the capital to visit and experience", Mr. Hieu commented. |
The Bach Diep lotus variety has long been grown in small lakes around West Lake. This lotus variety has up to 100 petals and is often used to make premium lotus tea. According to Dr. Dang Van Dong, Deputy Director of the Central Institute for Vegetable and Fruit Research, West Lake lotus has a unique aroma that is not found anywhere else. The restored lotus varieties are healthy varieties of West Lake, grown in pots and cared for and treated with a special regime. |
