On February 29, the leader of the Center for Disease Control of Ca Mau province said that a patient in Ca Mau city tested positive for monkeypox and is being treated at the Can Tho City Dermatology Hospital.

As reported by Tuoi Tre Online , on February 27, the Department of Health of Ca Mau province reported a case of a patient in Dinh Binh commune, Ca Mau city suspected of having monkeypox.

The patient suspected of having monkeypox was Mr. B. (36 years old, residing in Dinh Binh commune, Ca Mau city). He had symptoms of burning pain in the penis and pustules, so he went to a private clinic for examination and treatment.

The patient was given medication for 3 days by the doctor but the condition did not improve. After that, the patient developed many pustules and blisters of various sizes and in large numbers on the face, neck, arms, hands, feet, legs, scrotum, etc.

The symptoms of the disease became more severe, so the patient went to Ca Mau General Hospital for examination and was advised to go to Can Tho Dermatology Hospital for examination. Here, the patient was diagnosed with suspected monkeypox. Doctors took samples for testing and sent them to the Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City.

Epidemiological investigation showed that patient B.'s family has 5 people, the parents have just returned from abroad, in addition, the patient also has 2 younger siblings living in Nguyen Phich commune, U Minh district, Ca Mau province.

A few days before the onset of the disease, the patient met and had sex with a homosexual partner without using protection.

The Department of Health of Ca Mau province has directed the provincial Center for Disease Control to coordinate with relevant units to disinfect and handle the epidemic environment in the residential area of ​​the patient in Dinh Binh commune and the family in Nguyen Phich commune, U Minh district.

On February 28, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee issued an urgent dispatch directing relevant functional agencies to strengthen prevention and control of monkeypox.
