According to the Ministry of Transport, the road network planning for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050, approved by the Prime Minister, has planned to connect Quang Ngai province with Kon Tum via National Highway 24, the Quang Ngai - Quang Nam and Da Nang - Ngoc Hoi expressways.
The investment roadmap for these highways will be implemented after 2030.
Previously, in Document No. 1707 dated April 19, 2023, the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province proposed adding the Quang Ngai - Kon Tum expressway to the road network planning to directly connect the two localities, creating momentum for the development of the Bo Y - Kon Tum - Mang Den - Quang Ngai economic corridor.
According to the proposed plan, the Quang Ngai - Kon Tum expressway is nearly 136km long. The starting point (Km 0+000) intersects with the North - South expressway in the East, in Duc Pho town, Quang Ngai province. The end point (about Km 135+685) intersects with the North - South expressway in the West, in Kon Tum city, Kon Tum province.
The proposed investment scale of the route includes 4 lanes, roadbed width from 22 - 25.25m, design speed from 80 - 100km/h.
Taking note of the proposal of the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province, the Ministry of Transport said it will consider reporting to competent authorities to add the route to the planning.
The Ministry of Transport also requested the People's Committees of Quang Ngai and Kon Tum provinces to direct relevant agencies to coordinate in updating provincial planning and related planning (tourism, industry, urban areas, trade at border gates, etc.) in the process of reviewing and adjusting the road network planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, to report to competent authorities for consideration and decision.
