In a statement, the RSZ said that due to the Russian attack on targets in western Ukraine, the Polish and allied air forces conducted operations in Polish airspace. RSZ also stressed that its forces and resources remain ready to respond immediately.
"Polish and allied aircraft have begun operating in our airspace in connection with the Russian attack, specifically targeting facilities located in western Ukraine," the statement said.
The RSZ combat command activated all available forces and resources, pairs of fighter jets were deployed, ground air defense systems and radars were placed on the highest level of combat readiness.
The RSZ stressed that the steps are aimed at ensuring safety in areas bordering the threat zone. The command is monitoring the current situation, while its forces and resources remain ready to respond immediately.
On the same morning, Russia launched airstrikes against targets in Ukraine. Air strike alerts were sounded across Ukraine due to missile threats. Polish media reported that Russia also deployed Tu-95MS strategic bombers taking off from Russian airports in the attack.
