This is a new educational initiative coordinated by the New Zealand Government and New Zealand universities with a total scholarship value of nearly 3.2 billion VND.
Specifically, the NZUA 2025 scholarship program includes 14 scholarships, worth NZD 15,000/scholarship (about VND 227 million) when enrolling at 1 of 8 New Zealand public universities. These schools include Auckland University, Auckland Technology, Massey, Waikato, Victoria Wellington, Canterbury, Lincoln, Otago.
The program is expected to open applications in May 2025, for February 2026 intake. The official NZUA portal and details on eligibility and how to apply will be announced soon.
Mr. Ben Burrowes - ENZ's acting international executive director - said that all New Zealand universities participating in the NZUA scholarship program show their commitment to expanding learning and development opportunities for Vietnamese students.
Before the NZUA government scholarship, New Zealand also implemented another government scholarship specifically for Vietnamese students, however at the high school level.
It is the NZSS scholarship, for students in grades 8, 9, 10 in Vietnam who want to study high school in New Zealand.
In addition, New Zealand also has a Manaaki full scholarship program for Vietnamese candidates to study postgraduate programs in this country.
Thus, New Zealand is currently one of the few countries with government scholarships specifically for Vietnamese students from high school to postgraduate level.
Many New Zealand universities offer their own scholarships.
According to Education New Zealand (ENZ), in addition to government scholarship programs, New Zealand universities are currently offering many scholarships for Vietnam, with values ranging from 5,000 - 35,000 NZD (75 million - 530 million VND).
Some schools apply a new mechanism of dual scholarships, creating opportunities for Vietnamese students to receive high-value scholarships, or transfer scholarships between study programs.
In addition, the New Zealand Government's policy allows international students to stay and work in New Zealand for up to 3 years after graduating from a bachelor's degree.
ENZ said 75% of Vietnamese students participating in the 2024 student experience survey rated their overall experience in New Zealand positively.
In terms of living and studying experiences and opportunities to meet and connect, 84% of Vietnamese international students said they were satisfied.
