According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the heat wave continues to spread widely in the Southern region. In recent days, severe heat has returned to the Southeast provinces. According to weather reports, many places have the highest temperature reaching 37 - 38 degrees Celsius. Although Ho Chi Minh City is not the epicenter of the heat wave, the highest temperature is still 35 - 36 degrees Celsius. However, the actual temperature felt by people is far higher than the measurement in the meteorological tent.

In the hot weather that has lasted for many days, in addition to the solution of limiting going out, many people choose to use cooling drinks such as: Fruits, soft drinks... become more vibrant, attracting many customers to buy.

According to traditional markets in Ho Chi Minh City such as Binh Trieu Market (Thu Duc City), Thi Nghe Market (Binh Thanh District), Tan Son Nhat Market (Go Vap District), many types of fruits are sold at low prices. Accordingly, at Binh Trieu Market (Thu Duc City), dragon fruit, watermelon, guava are priced at 7,000 - 15,000 VND/kg, An Phuoc red plum is priced at 20,000 - 30,000 VND/kg, keo mango is priced at 30,000 - 35,000 VND/kg, orange is 16,000 VND/kg, kumquat, passion fruit is 15,000 VND/kg.

In addition, imported fruits are also quite popular such as: oranges, tangerines, grapes, apples... from the US, Korea, New Zealand, Egypt... with prices ranging from 60,000 - 200,000 VND/kg depending on the type.

Ms. Le Thi Thanh, owner of a fruit store in Binh Trieu market (Thu Duc city) said that the hot weather has caused the purchasing power of fruits to increase quite high. Since after Tet until now, the prices of many types of fruits have been quite stable, only increasing slightly on some occasions such as the day of God of Wealth, the full moon of January... Besides, the purchasing power of these items has also increased by 20-30% compared to normal days. Specifically, fresh coconut is consumed quite a lot, the selling price has increased slightly, from 8,000 - 15,000 VND/fruit, pineapple is about 12,000 - 15,000 VND/grade 1 fruit, orange is 35,000 - 50,000 VND/kg, melon is 60,000 - 80,000 VND/kg...

Many retailers predict that from now until April-May, which is the peak of the hot season, cooling fruits will continue to be consumed strongly. Ms. Tran Thi Hoang, a fruit vendor at Thi Nghe market (Binh Thanh district), said that at the end of March and the beginning of April, many types of fruits are in season, so the prices at the market are also cheaper than at the beginning of the month. Most of the fruits are imported from Western gardens, so transportation costs are low, and the fresh quality is loved by many customers.

Along with markets, at shopping malls and supermarkets, the purchasing power of cooling products has also increased significantly. Notably, to attract consumers, supermarkets also carry out promotional activities, discounting 15-20% on fruits such as green-skinned grapefruit, watermelon, guava, plum, mango, apple...

Besides the food cooling products group, the group of household appliances that people are interested in and sell well during the hot season also includes the electrical and refrigeration industry, with products such as air conditioners, air-conditioners, electric fans, blenders, juicers...

Like the food group, products in the electronics and household appliances group are being discounted from 10 - 40%. Accordingly, air conditioners with a price range of 6-12 million VND are selling well. Along with that, refrigerators with a capacity of 200-250 liters with a price range of 6-10 million VND are chosen by many people. Air conditioner fans from 1.5 - 5 million VND/unit; traditional electric fans with the advantages of high durability, easy to replace parts with a price range of 200 - 500,000 VND/unit are also consumed strongly.

According to the Southern Institute of Water Resources Research, the end of March and the beginning of April is the peak of the dry season and saltwater intrusion. However, more than 276,000 hectares of summer-autumn rice have been planted, concentrated in Dong Thap, Long An, Tien Giang and partly in Can Tho, Kien Giang, Vinh Long. In April, there is still little rain, the hot weather continues, the temperature is high... From now until the end of May, the Mekong Delta will continue to experience increased saltwater intrusion, in which the highest intrusion is from April 8 to 14, the salinity boundary is 4‰ at river mouths 45-95km.
