The Ministry of Transport has just announced the conclusion of a meeting on the Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai Expressway investment project. In which, it agreed with the People's Committees of Ho Chi Minh City and Tay Ninh on the starting point, ending point and direction of this expressway project.
Accordingly, the leaders of the Ministry of Transport agreed that the starting point of the Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai expressway project will intersect with Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3.
The end point of the project affects the ability to study investment under the public-private partnership (PPP) method and related planning has not yet been established, so the Ministry of Transport agreed that phase 1 of the investment study will connect to Km53+850, National Highway 22, about 5 km from Moc Bai border gate.
The Ministry of Transport also said that in the coming time, it will continue to research and work with the Cambodian side to have a plan to connect the two expressways Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai and Phnom Penh - Ba Vet (Cambodia).
Regarding the route, the Ministry of Transport agreed that the Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai expressway will basically be parallel to the existing National Highway 22.

In particular, phase 1 will invest in four expressway lanes, carrying out site clearance on a complete scale of 6 lanes, in accordance with the road network development plan for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, which has just been approved by the Prime Minister.
The Ministry of Transport also requested the People's Committee of Tay Ninh province to soon have a plan to invest in expanding the road in the Moc Bai border gate area to meet the demand for goods trading and increased traffic volume when two expressways in Vietnam and Cambodia are put into operation.
The total investment in phase 1 of the Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai expressway is estimated at about 20,889 billion VND.
Of which, the central budget participating in the project is 9,932 billion VND, Ho Chi Minh City and Tay Ninh 2,900 billion VND for compensation, site clearance, resettlement...; capital mobilized by BOT investors is 10,957 billion VND.
This project, when completed, will connect Moc Bai Urban Area with Ring Roads 4 and 3 of Ho Chi Minh City to create a continuous network of external traffic routes, becoming a gateway to Ho Chi Minh City.
At the same time, the project will connect economic centers, border economic zones and urban areas of the Southern key economic region with regional and ASEAN international seaports and airports.
The project is expected to start construction in 2024 and strive to be basically completed in 2027.
