Around December 14-15, mountainous and midland areas of the North are likely to experience severe cold. From the night of December 10-15, the Central region will experience rain, focusing on Hue - Quang Ngai with a total amount of 200-400mm, in some places over 700mm.
On the evening of December 9, Mr. Nguyen Van Huong, Head of Weather Forecast Department, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, analyzed and warned about the strong cold air mass that is about to hit our country.
Specifically, Mr. Huong said that according to the forecast, on the afternoon and night of December 11, the North will be affected by the Northeast monsoon, so from December 12 to 14, there will be continuous cold air strengthening on the background of the previous sharp drop in temperature.
“By December 12-13, the temperature will continue to drop sharply and we estimate that around December 14-15, in the mountainous and midland areas of the North, there is a possibility of severe cold, with some places experiencing severe cold,” Mr. Huong noted.
Mr. Huong also added that severe cold is when the average daily temperature drops below 15 degrees. With such a drop in temperature, in addition to affecting human health, it also affects crops and livestock. Therefore, people in the mountainous and midland areas of the North need to have plans to prevent, care for, and keep warm for livestock and poultry as well as protect crops.
The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that the lowest temperature in this cold air mass in the North and North Central regions is generally from 14-17 degrees Celsius, in mountainous areas 11-14 degrees Celsius, in high mountainous areas below 10 degrees Celsius. In Hanoi, the lowest temperature is 15-17 degrees Celsius.
In addition, due to the influence of cold air combined with high-altitude easterly wind disturbances and the windward terrain of the Truong Son range, from the night of December 10-15, the Central region experienced a period of rain, focusing on Hue - Quang Ngai with a total amount of 200-400mm, in some places over 700mm.
