Meta develops social network to compete with Twitter

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên21/05/2023

Since Twitter was acquired by billionaire Elon Musk, many users have been looking for alternatives to the social network because they are not satisfied with the decisions made by the owner of Tesla and Space X. Notably, Mastodon and Bluesky, the new social network developed by former Twitter founder Jack Dorsey, and the latest is Meta.

The latest move, reported by The Verge , is an internal Meta slide showing an app the company is developing to compete with Twitter. The new platform has yet to be officially named, with the internal codenames being “P92” or “Barcelona,” designed to follow Instagram’s guidelines and branding.

The app's interface is quite similar to Instagram, but instead of showing photos and videos, the app's homepage shows a timeline of posts with content described as text-based. Users will be able to attach photos, videos, and links to these posts, just like Twitter. Others can reply and create threads on the platform.

Meta says creators will be able to easily bring their audiences to the new app, with users now having the option to follow accounts on Instagram with just a tap. The company says the new platform will have moderation features, as well as options for who can reply to or mention your account.

Interestingly, Meta says it is working to make the app compatible with platforms like Mastodon, which would allow users on other apps to search, follow, and interact with profiles and content if the account is set to public.
