The US claims to possess technology that can “bend time and space”

White House Office of Science and Technology Policy Director and advisor Michael Kratsios declared that the US possesses breakthrough technology that can “bend time and space.”

This is part of a strategy to promote defense and high-tech innovation. He called for reducing administrative barriers to promote the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI), biology and semiconductors.

“Our technologies allow us to manipulate time and space,” Kratsios said in a recent policy speech in Austin, Texas. “They erase distance, make things grow, and improve productivity.”

Mr. Kratsios stressed the importance of American leadership on emerging technologies.

Mr Kratsios's remarks come just weeks after he was confirmed as the top science official in the Trump administration.

He described the US government's technology agenda as focused on reducing bureaucratic constraints, promoting research and development, and enabling American companies to lead globally.

He emphasized “the choice of individuals to create new technologies and contribute to scientific discoveries that will bend time and space” and “do more with less.”

While the White House has not provided an official explanation, the wording in the speech suggests the phrase is metaphorical — referring to the transformative nature of modern innovation, rather than the literal manipulation of space-time or the invention of time travel.

As the United States prepares to celebrate its 250th anniversary in 2026, Kratsios' speech is one of several recent efforts by the Trump administration to highlight the so-called "Golden Age of American Innovation."./.
