According to Devdiscourve , compatible with around 900,000 vehicles with Mercedes-Benz's MBUX system, the company says ChatGPT will be downloaded over the air after the driver opts in via the Mercedes app or by voice command.

ChatGPT will make Mercedes cars smarter

The trial will last three months, during which Mercedes will see how drivers use the technology. The German automaker says ChatGPT will make responses in its car systems sound more natural, allowing drivers to ask for information about their destination or answer other queries, such as what to cook for dinner.

Mercedes-Benz has previously allowed drivers and passengers to make a variety of voice requests, such as turning on the seat heaters. The ChatGPT integration promises to take things even further. In a press release, the company said that drivers will be able to not only issue commands using the phrase “Hey Mercedes,” but also chat with their cars.

In a separate blog post, Microsoft — which is a major investor in OpenAI — said drivers could one day make restaurant reservations, book movie tickets, and perform other tasks from behind the wheel using built-in AI assistants. The results from Mercedes-Benz’s testing could pave the way for new ways to drive. The voice data will be stored, anonymized, and analyzed in Mercedes’ cloud storage to ensure privacy, the company said.

In March, Mercedes-Benz rival General Motors said it was also exploring integrating its ChatGPT AI chatbot technology in vehicles as part of a broader collaboration with Microsoft.
