Bringing a warm Tet to every home with the Spring Volunteer Program

Miss Universe Vietnam 2022 Nguyen Thi Ngoc Chau's Facebook page has just announced that she is the ambassador of this meaningful program this year. The message that Miss Universe Vietnam 2022 sent to the program is "Let's join us, the ambassadors of Spring Volunteer 2025, to spread the fire of volunteering, connect hearts, and bring spring to every home".

Along with Miss Nguyen Thi Ngoc Chau, this year's Spring Volunteer program also has many ambassadors who are beauty queens, singers, and influential people among young people such as Miss Grand International 2021 Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien, Miss International 2024 Huynh Thi Thanh Thuy, Miss Intercontinental 2022 Le Nguyen Bao Ngoc, singer Phuong My Chi, singer - rapper Tieu Minh Phung, national taekwondo athlete Chau Tuyet Van...

At the beginning of the program, which was implemented on the occasion of Tet At Dau 2005, realizing that there were many students who had to celebrate Tet away from home because they did not have the conditions to return to their hometowns, the Center for Social Work and Student Support of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City National University decided to organize the Spring Volunteer Campaign so that those who could not return home for Tet could have more meaningful activities towards the community.

At that time, volunteers collected old calendars to make Braille books for the blind and participated in many meaningful activities such as going to nursing homes, hospitals, open houses, and shelters to play, give gifts, or help the lonely and disadvantaged clean and decorate their houses to welcome Tet. A large volunteer campaign of Ho Chi Minh City students started with simple but warm and sincere actions like that. From the first 57 "soldiers", just a few years later, this campaign with a strong humane imprint has created a great influence throughout the city, becoming a meeting place for thousands of young people every time Tet comes and spring returns.

In 2006, Spring Volunteering became a school-level campaign, then was upgraded to a regional level with a scale of six inter-schools in the East of the city. In 2009, the Ho Chi Minh City Student Association decided to expand and deploy Spring Volunteering into a campaign for all students in the city. Starting in Ho Chi Minh City, not long after, Spring Volunteering followed "Nhan Van" students to neighboring provinces and cities such as Dak Nong, Binh Phuoc, Ba Ria-Vung Tau... In 2025, in the program launched on the morning of December 22, 2024, 70,000 young soldiers will participate in Spring Volunteering 2025 in the Kick-off Program taking place on December 22, double that of the previous year.

The Spring Volunteer Campaign is an opportunity to promote the spirit of volunteering for the community of the city's youth. Volunteers will work at hospitals, nursing homes, shelters, open houses, specialized schools, social facilities, student dormitories, accommodation areas, boarding houses, worker accommodation areas, train stations, bus stations, etc. in Ho Chi Minh City and Thanh An island commune, Can Gio district.

In addition to the opportunity to demonstrate the spirit of volunteering for the community, creating an environment for young people and students to practice, the volunteer spring is also an opportunity to connect the community, international students, and young artists to join the campaign. Young people together carry out beautiful actions, share civilized lifestyles, and contribute to caring for difficult cases and those in special circumstances during the Lunar New Year 2025. Over the years, this has also been an environment for young people and students in the city to practice their personality, capacity, social practice skills, and international integration.

This year's Spring Volunteer Campaign takes place from December 22 and lasts until January 28, 2025 (the 29th day of the 12th lunar month).

For Vietnamese people, Tet Nguyen Dan is a time for family reunion, an occasion for people and families to gather together, share past difficulties, and gain motivation for the coming year. However, there are those who are less fortunate and cannot have a warm, family reunion during Tet.

Solidarity and sharing are noble gestures of the Vietnamese people. With the spirit of “the whole leaves cover the torn leaves” – the noble gesture of solidarity, sharing, and supporting each other to overcome difficulties and hardships is still spreading in the community. Therefore, when the slogan “Ready – Ready – Ready” is loudly and proudly chanted by the volunteer student “soldiers”, the spring atmosphere seems to light up in the hearts of each “soldier”. That slogan is the source of resilient strength, urging volunteers to bring a warm spring, spreading faith and hope to every home.
