According to Engadget , the 15-inch MacBook Air becomes the first non-"Pro" laptop Apple has released with this screen size. As expected, the 15-inch MacBook Air comes with the same M2 chip as the 13-inch model launched last year. Despite being a year old, the M2 still provides quite good performance on the new product.
The new 15-inch MacBook Air is seen as a larger version of last year's 13-inch model.
Design-wise, the 15-inch MacBook Air is similar to all the other laptops Apple has released recently, including the square shape.
The exact resolution of the new MacBook Air display is still unknown, but it’s a 15.3-inch Liquid Retina display with a maximum brightness of 500 nits. That means it won’t have the ProMotion adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz, but will instead be stuck at 60Hz. It’s also a standard LCD display, not the XDR high dynamic range found in the Pro. This isn’t surprising, as Apple looks to cut costs and differentiate the Pro line from the Air.
Apple says its new MacBook Air offers 18 hours of battery life and weighs just 3.3 pounds. Like the 13-inch model, it has no cooling fan, so it’s pretty quiet. The company also includes two Thunderbolt 4 ports, along with a headphone jack and a MagSafe charging port.
The product comes with a notch placed on the screen to accommodate the webcam.
The 15-inch MacBook Air will be available in four colors: Midnight, Space Gray, Starlight, and Silver. It starts at $1,299 and is available for pre-order now, with a release next week. The base model comes with an 8-core CPU and 8-core GPU, but users can upgrade to a 10-core GPU if they opt for the higher-end models. It also comes with 8GB of RAM, which can be upgraded to 24GB.
In addition to the 15-inch MacBook Air, Apple also reduced the price of two existing 13-inch MacBook Air models, with the M2 version starting at $1,099 instead of $1,199, and the M1 version starting at $999.
