The ancient trees that were cut down were monkey skull trees with a diameter of 50 - 80cm, 30m high with a wide canopy.

The felling of these trees is to serve the construction of the Tran Quoc Hoan - Cong Hoa road connecting project with a budget of more than 4,800 billion VND invested by the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board.

In mid-2023, the investor also took part of the land of Hoang Van Thu Park (Tan Binh District) located on the Phan Thuc Duyen intersection with Tran Quoc Hoan Street, with more than 300 trees in this area being cut down to serve the project.

According to the investor, the purpose of taking part of the park land is to make a temporary road for vehicles because this area is often congested. After the project is completed, the contractor will return nearly 700 square meters to replant trees, and the remaining area will be used as a sidewalk for pedestrians.

The Tran Quoc Hoan - Cong Hoa connecting road project, more than 4km long, 25-48m wide, 6 lanes, started construction in December 2022 with a total capital of more than 4,800 billion VND. Of which, the underpass at the Tran Quoc Hoan - Phan Thuc Duyen intersection is the first package to be deployed.

The project is expected to be completed in August 2024, helping to synchronously connect Terminal T3 of Tan Son Nhat International Airport and reduce congestion at Tan Son Nhat gateway, completing the traffic infrastructure system in Tan Binh district.
