“Spring is the Tree Planting Festival/Making the country more and more Springy”. For a long time, the poem of beloved Uncle Ho has entered the hearts of every Vietnamese person. Every Spring, Tree Planting Festival truly becomes a festival for the entire Party and people in the province to plant trees, afforest and protect the ecological environment. That tradition has brought practical value, contributing to sustainable forest development, beautifying the landscape, especially in the current situation of climate change and environmental pollution.
Actively plant trees and afforest
On November 28, 1959, President Ho Chi Minh wrote the article “Tet tree planting” published in Nhan Dan newspaper under the pen name Tran Luc, calling on everyone, every household, every organization, and every locality to actively compete in planting and caring for trees and proposed to organize a “Tet tree planting” day nationwide, becoming a beautiful custom, a meaningful cultural activity every time Tet comes and Spring comes. In recent years, the tree planting movement during Tet has achieved tremendous results. Forest protection and development work continues to be widely and effectively implemented, contributing positively to environmental protection and socio-economic development of the country.
With a large total forest and forestry land area of the province, in recent years, the tree planting and afforestation movement in Thanh Son district has always been focused on by authorities at all levels, contributing to greening barren land and hills, protecting the ecological environment, and increasing income for people. Coming to Giap Lai commune, we learned that the commune is preparing the field to plant over 4,000 scattered trees. To ensure good conditions for the planting to achieve the highest results, the commune has focused on directing people to clear the ground and dig holes to carry out tree planting.
Comrade Ha Sy Bang - Chairman of Giap Lai Commune People's Committee said: With the attention of the district and professional sectors, the District Forest Protection Department closely directed, propagated, guided, and urged, the area of forest planting by the people is increasing. This year, after being assigned the plan, the commune issued a document instructing residential areas to organize households to register for forest planting and scattered tree planting. At the same time, it instructed forest planting households to clear the ground cover, dig holes, and prepare seedlings to implement the 2025 forest planting and the At Ty Spring Tree Planting Tet activities".
Like Giap Lai commune, communes in Thanh Son district are also actively propagating and deploying plans to people, preparing the field to start planting forests at the beginning of the year. This year, the whole Thanh Son district strives to plant over 2,500 hectares of concentrated forests, over 300,000 scattered trees. To complete the plan, the district has directed localities to organize clearing of vegetation, digging holes to serve forest planting. In order to proactively provide seedlings for forest planting, forestry seed production and trading units in the district have produced seedlings of all kinds to serve people. Plants are regularly checked and closely monitored from seed materials, sowing to nursery, so that the use of seeds of unknown origin in production has been limited, contributing to improving the quality of planted forests. In addition, the district also issued documents guiding crop structure for localities, assigned cadres to closely follow the area, promptly grasp difficulties to solve them right at the grassroots level.
The district has a relatively large forest area and nursery facilities. Every year, Doan Hung district has planned and proactively planted forests to contribute to increasing people's income, protecting the environment, and combating climate change. To meet the demand for seedlings for afforestation, from the beginning of the year, nursery facilities in the district have proactively sown seedlings and taken measures to care for and prevent pests and diseases, ensuring good growth and a high survival rate.
Mr. Vu Tien Hop - owner of a seedling production and trading facility in Ngoc Quan commune, Doan Hung district said: "My family sells perennial plant varieties in the commune, supplying the market with an average of 2 million seedlings of all kinds each year. With such a large quantity, to ensure the quality of seedlings provided to people, I always choose reputable seed suppliers with brands and origins, and regularly coordinate with functional agencies to take samples for testing and evaluating seed quality; actively participate in training courses to gain more knowledge to serve production and business activities. Up to now, the facility is ready to provide seedlings to households planting forests at the beginning of the year".
Responding to Uncle Ho's call, every spring, the homeland organizes a tree planting festival. Planting trees and afforestation has become a movement that not only brings green to life but also is a strength for local economic development.
To make Tet tree planting effective and practical
On April 1, 2021, the Prime Minister signed Decision No. 524 approving the "Project to plant 1 billion trees in the period of 2021-2025". To work with the whole country to achieve this goal, while contributing to beautifying the landscape and promoting the potential of ecotourism, on April 13, 2021, Phu Tho People's Committee issued Plan No. 1466/KH-UBND on planting scattered trees in the province in the period of 2021 - 2025. Accordingly, striving to plant over 10 million scattered trees and 45,000 hectares of forest.
The province has a large area of forestry land. The province has well implemented the planning of 3 types of forests; implemented the work of forest protection and development; planted nearly 10,000 hectares of new forests every year; the forest coverage rate reached 39.7%; maintained a diverse and sustainable ecosystem, contributing significantly to the conservation of genetic resources and the creation of water resources; proactively and effectively prevented floods, storms, droughts, landslides... for the Northern midland region.
Tree planting is carried out regularly, continuously and widely, creating an increasingly practical and effective movement. The province has developed a plan to implement the "Tet tree planting to forever remember Uncle Ho" in the Spring of At Ty 2025. Accordingly, the launching ceremony of the provincial tree planting festival will start at 8:00 a.m. on February 3, 2025, which is the 6th day of the first lunar month of At Ty year at the Hung Temple Historical Site. Phu Tho districts and towns will proactively organize the ceremony to respond to the launching ceremony of the Tet tree planting festival; the time of the organization will be decided by the People's Committees of districts and towns.
To ensure that the "Tet tree planting festival to forever remember Uncle Ho" is solemn, practical, meaningful, economical, effective, and avoids ostentation and formality, according to comrade Tran Quang Dong - Deputy Head of the Provincial Forest Protection Sub-Department, the Sub-Department has advised the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Provincial People's Committee to issue a plan to implement the "Tet tree planting festival to forever remember Uncle Ho" in the Spring of At Ty 2025; assign the forest planting plan to the People's Committees of districts, towns, cities, and grassroots units to proactively prepare the site and seedlings so that from the beginning of the year, when the weather is favorable, the forest planting campaign can be organized.
Under the direction of the Provincial People's Committee, localities have strengthened propaganda work, raised awareness of all classes of people about the role, effects, value of forests, the significance of planting trees, afforestation, forest protection, protection of the ecological environment, contributing to mitigating natural disasters, responding to climate change; mobilized the participation of the whole society to join hands, unite, and participate in planting trees and afforestation. At the same time, planned seed sources, nursery systems, ensured enough quality forestry seedlings for afforestation; provided guidance on new planting techniques, directed the successful completion of technical design of forestry works; prepared sites, seedlings, encouraged people to use high-quality seedlings, applied scientific and technical advances in intensive afforestation; focused on forest protection, development and forest fire prevention and fighting, contributing to promoting forestry development in an effective and sustainable direction.
In order for the tree planting and forestation movement to promote economic efficiency, the specialized sector directs localities to base on advantages, climate, and land to plant suitable trees. Encourage the development of diverse farm models, renovate mixed gardens into pilot models. In public offices, it is necessary to plant and care for green areas in the campus. How to make green trees truly create a green - clean - beautiful landscape, protecting the environment.
Along with actively planting trees, localities and each person need to take good care of and protect the planted forest area. Resolutely fight and prevent violations in the forestry sector. Only then will tree planting and afforestation develop more and more, and forests will truly contribute to protecting the environment and protecting human life.
