According to Sky Deutschland, the current coach of Sporting Lisbon, Ruben Amorim, has just reached a preliminary agreement to replace Jurgen Klopp to lead Liverpool from next season.
Amorim has verbally agreed a three-year contract with Liverpool, Sky Deutschland reported on April 9. Final negotiations between the 39-year-old Portuguese coach and the Anfield team are said to be underway. If all goes well, the two sides will sign a contract next July.

Amorim is a phenomenon in Portuguese football. In the 2020-2021 season, at the age of 36, this coach helped Sporting Lisbon win the title, ending the 19-year dominance of FC Porto and Benfica in the Portuguese league. He also led Sporting to the 2021-2022 Champions League round of 16, the 2022-2023 Europa League quarter-finals and the 2023-2024 Europa League round of 16. This season, he is aiming for a second Portuguese championship, four points ahead of Benfica and playing one game less, while there are only six rounds left. Some experts compare Amorim to Julian Nagelsmann, the young coach who led Leipzig, Bayern and is preparing for the Euro with the German team.
According to Goal , Liverpool have included Amorim in their list of candidates since they started looking for a new coach. After Xabi Alonso decided to stay at Leverkusen next season, the Anfield team considered the 39-year-old Portuguese coach as their number one choice. In addition to Liverpool, Amorim has also received attention from Bayern and Chelsea.
Current manager Jurgen Klopp will leave Liverpool at the end of the 2023-2024 season. He wants to take a break after nine years of continuous work at Anfield.
When Klopp arrived in late 2015, Liverpool were 10th in the Premier League. The German has since won the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, Community Shield, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup and two League Cups.
This season, the Anfield team has won the League Cup, reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League and is currently ranked second in the Premier League. If they win the Europa League and the Premier League, Klopp will leave Liverpool with a treble.
