Speech by Prof. Dr. Dang Luong Mo, Honorary Professor of Hosei University (Japan)

The 2024 intellectual meeting conference is an opportunity for Ho Chi Minh City leaders to meet, listen to opinions, proposals and suggestions from intellectual delegates in various fields.

At the Conference, Prof. Dr. Vo Van Sen, former Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Ho Chi Minh City National University) emphasized the important role of cultural training and humanistic people in sustainable development. The mission of the school is not only to provide a scientific basis for policy making but also to help preserve cultural values, shape national identity and build a spiritual foundation for society.

According to Professor Dr. Vo Van Sen, training humanistic people is the foundation for comprehensive human development in the new period. It is not only knowledge, but also the driving force for sustainable development.

Prof. Dr. Vo Van Sen also proposed policies on remuneration and improving the working environment so that intellectuals in this field can contribute more effectively to the overall development of the City.

Professor Dang Luong Mo, Honorary Professor of Hosei University (Japan), emphasized the importance of mobilizing intellectual resources from the overseas Vietnamese community - a great intellectual resource of Vietnam. He said that there are currently more than 5.3 million Vietnamese people living in developed countries. However, this resource has not been exploited effectively.

To maximize the potential of overseas Vietnamese, Prof. Dr. Dang Luong Mo proposed the establishment of an “Overseas Vietnamese Talent Bank” - an organization that gathers talents, acting as a bridge between overseas experts and domestic needs. At the same time, he emphasized that to effectively use talented people, it is necessary to clearly identify real needs, create suitable working conditions, ensure fair treatment in both material and spiritual terms, and be ready to listen to and respect their critical opinions.

Member of the Politburo, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen delivered a concluding speech at the Conference.

At the conference, Ho Chi Minh City leaders pledged to support young intellectuals, especially in the fields of science, technology and innovation. Initiatives from the conference will be researched and implemented to bring Ho Chi Minh City closer to its goal of becoming a leading innovation center in Southeast Asia.

Concluding the Conference, Politburo member and Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen said that the 5-year journey of this term has almost completed four years. Although there is not much time left, the City has achieved important targets, marking a new step in the City's development. However, there are still many difficulties and challenges ahead.

The Central Government and the City continue to create all favorable conditions for investment and development. The City is determined to complete the goals set for 2025, including striving to achieve double-digit growth in gross regional domestic product (GRDP).

The intellectuals are an important force, together with the government and the people of the City, immersing themselves in the rich, vibrant and challenging reality of today. The city's leaders always accompany the intellectuals in the process of building and developing the country. The city always upholds the ethics, integrity and sense of responsibility of the intellectuals, attached to the country and the City; and the leaders must be exemplary in fulfilling their role of creating conditions and an environment for all intellectuals, experts, scientists and artists.

“The city’s leaders are always aware that, in order to develop strongly, it is necessary to listen to and learn from all classes of people, especially intellectuals. We must seriously learn from previous leaders such as the late Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet - who always demonstrated a spirit of closeness, openness, and direct listening to opinions from the people and intellectuals,” Comrade Nguyen Van Nen emphasized./.
