Storm No. 3 and its aftermath have passed, leaving behind serious damage to people and property, significantly affecting the work and daily life of the people. In urgent times, together with the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, socio-political organizations, agencies, unions, and the Red Cross Society (RC) at all levels in the province have continued to affirm their core role in becoming a reliable bridge to mobilize resources to support localities and people affected by natural disasters, contributing to spreading humanitarian values ​​and good deeds throughout society.

Join hands towards flood areas

Hien Luong Commune, Ha Hoa District is one of the localities severely affected by floods. The storm's circulation caused the Red River to rise, flooding many roads, landslides damaged the traffic system, irrigation canals, causing widespread flooding, losing hundreds of hectares of rice, corn, and vegetables... with total estimated damage of more than 165 billion VND. Through the Red Cross Society, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committees at all levels, local authorities welcomed more than 150 relief teams to share, encourage and present 252 tons of food and essential necessities such as: rice, instant noodles, bottled water, fresh milk, cakes, dry food, meat, canned fish, medicine, medical equipment, life jackets, raincoats... and 350 million VND in cash. In addition, the teams also directly supported 1.6 billion VND to 2,184 people affected by floods.

Comrade Le Dang Hung - Chairman of Hien Luong Commune People's Committee shared: "In the past days, we have continued to receive the attention and support of all levels, sectors and the companionship of relief groups to help people overcome difficulties soon, step by step to restore the economy. Natural disasters can bring much pain and loss, but through these acts of kindness, we feel more clearly the strength of the spirit of Great National Unity".

According to statistics from the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Ha Hoa district as of October 10, floods have killed 2 people, injured 1 person; damaged more than 1,700 hectares of rice and crops; nearly 832 hectares of aquatic products, over 66,000 livestock, and many other serious damages to houses, facilities, traffic infrastructure, schools, etc., estimated at over 300 billion VND. Facing difficulties caused by natural disasters, many individuals and organizations have donated nearly 9.9 billion VND and over 82,415 tons of rice to the District Relief Committee for timely distribution to localities. In addition, communes in the affected areas have also directly received nearly 2.9 billion VND and over 816 tons of food, goods, and essential relief supplies from organizations and individuals across the country.

Comrade Do Thi Phong - Chairman of the Fatherland Front Committee of Ha Hoa district affirmed: In the most difficult and arduous times, the relief gifts from the people of the whole country not only contribute to sharing but also add motivation and strength for the people in the localities affected by storm No. 3 to overcome difficulties and soon stabilize their lives. In the coming time, we hope that organizations, businesses and individuals will continue to spread the spirit of "Mutual love", share and support people to overcome the damage caused by natural disasters.

Not only Ha Hoa, storm No. 3 and the storm's circulation caused serious damage to people, property and people's lives in some localities across the province. Immediately after the storm's circulation passed, on all routes from the South to the North, hundreds of trucks carrying goods and necessities from organizations and individuals across the country headed north to support flood-affected localities and the people of the Ancestral Land to overcome difficulties. These practical actions not only met urgent needs at that time but also became a solid foundation for people to improve their living conditions, health and create livelihoods after natural disasters.

The fulcrum for rebuilding life

In Phu Tho province, storm No. 3 caused damage to people, property, crops, and aquatic products; many offices, educational and medical facilities had their roofs blown off and were damaged; dykes, irrigation works, and traffic works were eroded, especially 2 spans of Phong Chau bridge collapsed, along with many other damages with a total estimated loss of 1,642 billion VND. Floods also left more than 6,400 hectares of rice and crops unharvested. In the face of challenges and difficulties caused by natural disasters, the spiritual strength of "Mutual Love" of the Vietnamese people has been multiplied through charitable, humanitarian, and relief activities present everywhere.

By the end of October 10, the Provincial Red Cross Society had received 310 tons of goods and necessities including: Banh Chung, instant noodles, rice, milk, water, ham, sausage, dry food, blankets, clothes... from 67 organizations and individuals with a total value of over 12 billion VND. At the same time, 534 delegations were introduced to directly affected localities to support 5.8 billion VND in cash and hundreds of tons of food... worth 19.2 billion VND. Recently, the Samaritan's Purse Organization - USA has presented 1,685 emergency relief packages including kitchen utensils, household items and personal hygiene kits to families in Ha Hoa, Doan Hung and Cam Khe districts. At the same time, 5,000 backpacks and personal hygiene kits were donated to students of 8 primary schools and 6 secondary schools in Ha Hoa and Doan Hung districts affected by the disaster, with a total value of relief gifts of more than 6.1 billion VND.

Directly presenting relief gifts in Phu Tho province, Ms. Vu Thi Phuong Thuy - Representative of Samaritan's Purse - USA in Vietnam affirmed: We have selected necessary and useful daily necessities and items to send to people and students severely affected by Typhoon Yagi with the desire to express love and the spirit of "Mutual Love" to help people overcome the current difficulties and gradually stabilize their lives again.

Up to now, the Provincial Red Cross Society has guided more than 170 volunteer groups to provide direct support in flooded areas including: Ha Hoa, Cam Khe, Thanh Ba, Doan Hung, Phu Ninh with a total relief value of over 1,300 tons of goods, worth more than 65 billion VND. Red Cross Society levels have received more than 90.4 billion VND of goods; nearly 6.78 billion VND in cash and transfers to promptly support affected people. Not only doing a good job of charity, humanitarian, and relief work in the province, through the Red Cross Society levels, many volunteer clubs in some localities such as: Tam Nong, Thanh Son, Doan Hung, Yen Lap, Thanh Thuy, Lam Thao have organized shipments to support heavily affected areas in the two provinces of Yen Bai and Lao Cai with a value of gifts and cash of 1.3 billion VND.

Comrade Bui Van Huan - Chairman of the Provincial Red Cross Society said: “Based on the actual situation and the extent of damage, localities have also received relief goods, necessities and cash to overcome difficulties caused by the impact of storm No. 3. Relief shipments from all levels, sectors, organizations and individuals across the country to the Fatherland have become a fulcrum to help people have more conditions to gradually rebuild their lives and develop the economy. In the coming days, the Society will continue to perform well its role in receiving and distributing relief goods to areas and addresses that are still facing many difficulties; allocating funds donated by organizations and individuals to support the construction and repair of houses for people severely damaged after natural disasters. At the same time, we hope that the Provincial People's Committee will pay attention to and invest in building a Relief Warehouse at the Provincial Red Cross Society to facilitate the receipt of emergency relief gifts in case of natural disasters and epidemics”.
