VSIP Can Tho Expectations

On October 17, 2022, the Prime Minister approved the decision on approving the investment policy of the project (DA) to invest in construction and business of infrastructure of Vinh Thanh Industrial Park (phase 1) in Can Tho city.

Urgently preparing to start construction

The above project has a total investment capital of nearly 3,718 billion VND, the investor is VSIP (including Industrial Development and Investment Corporation - JSC, Vietnam - Singapore Industrial Park Joint Venture Company Limited, Vietnam - Singapore Urban and Industrial Park Development Joint Stock Company), the land use area of the project is more than 293 hectares.

According to Mr. Duong Tan Hien, Permanent Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee, up to now, 535/538 dossiers have been inventoried and compensated, equivalent to an area of 285 hectares, reaching more than 97%; meetings have been held to approve the legality of 408/538 dossiers with an area of about 224.4 hectares, reaching more than 76%; and 333/538 dossiers with an area of about 215 hectares, reaching more than 73% have been approved by the project compensation council. The City Land Fund Development Center has basically completed the site clearance work, temporarily handing over the site to the VSIP investor to carry out site clearance and sand pumping to prepare for the groundbreaking ceremony scheduled for the end of June 2023.

Recently, Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee Nguyen Van Hieu conducted a survey on the progress of the VSIP Can Tho Industrial Park. To ensure the work of the project, the Secretary of the City Party Committee requested that units continue to closely follow the work to direct and focus on solving problems and difficulties, especially closely following ministries and branches. Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu noted that there must be a truly quality resettlement area for people affected by the project. "This must be a modern urban area and ensure standards so that people can see that they are benefiting from the urbanization process. If phase 1 is done well, the next phase will be implemented more smoothly" - Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee emphasized.

Clean, green industrial park

Mr. Anthony Tan, Deputy General Director of Vietnam - Singapore Industrial Park Joint Venture Company, committed that VSIP will put all efforts to bring success to the project and make it a project that Can Tho can be proud of. "We are very eager to promote the rapid implementation of the project. We aim to build VSIP Can Tho into a green, smart and sustainable industrial park," said Mr. Anthony Tan.

Mr. Kelvin Teo, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam - Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP Group), affirmed that VSIP Can Tho project will be implemented on schedule and in accordance with the regulations agreed with Can Tho leaders. At the same time, VSIP Group will focus on calling for foreign enterprises to invest in production and business following the trend of "clean, green, sustainable" in VSIP Can Tho project.

Mr. Kelvin Teo affirmed: "VSIP is committed to a long-term and synchronous investment roadmap at VSIP Can Tho Industrial Park. Through research with Japanese and Korean customers and some investors, they want to have land to invest in this Industrial Park in the third and fourth quarters of 2024. We have visited the area where the Industrial Park is being developed and have seen the close and synchronous coordination between the locality and VSIP Can Tho".

Mr. Tran Viet Truong, Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee, emphasized that this is a key project of Can Tho City, with regional influence, planned according to the criteria of green, clean, environmentally friendly industry, smart and modern management, sustainable development, solving labor and employment issues, creating large revenue sources for the budget. Thereby, contributing greatly to the industrialization and modernization of Can Tho City.

At the working session with VSIP Group, Secretary of Can Tho City Party Committee Nguyen Van Hieu said that VSIP Can Tho is currently the first project in the Mekong Delta with the largest industrial park scale (except Long An), so it is the driving force for the city to implement. Therefore, this project is of great interest to all levels from the central to the city and they are focusing on how to soon put this industrial park into operation and attract investors. At the same time, Can Tho is a place with abundant human resources, especially high-quality human resources when concentrating many universities, colleges, vocational schools, etc. Therefore, this is one of the advantages of Can Tho when implementing the industrial park ecosystem. "The city is in the final stages of completing the integrated planning project between socio-economic and land use planning, expected to be submitted to the City People's Council in early July. After that, it will report to the Government and try to have this integrated planning approved by August or September this year, at which time the city will officially have a legal basis for socio-economic planning, land use planning along the development axes in terms of traffic, thereby creating room for industrial park development" - Secretary Nguyen Van Hieu said.

The Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee also wants to attract investors to the industrial park to be green, clean, ensuring factors according to the standards of countries, investors and especially sustainable development for the locality. Because the Mekong Delta in general and Can Tho City in particular are the national rice granary, fruit granary, seafood granary... it is necessary to keep this land clean to develop high-tech agriculture.

Promote socio-economic development

Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu expects VSIP Can Tho to accompany the city in its goal of becoming a food processing and distribution center, developing major infrastructure in the Mekong Delta region, contributing significantly to the restructuring and promoting the socio-economic development of the city. At the same time, Can Tho City considers this as one of the outstanding activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam - Singapore strategic partnership.
