(CLO) In reality, building a sustainable cooperative relationship between the press and businesses is still difficult. Harassment and threats to businesses are still very common, causing a serious decline in trust between the press and businesses and people. On the contrary, businesses are also "forgetting" the press in their brand communication campaigns.

There are negotiations up to several hundred million dong.

At the 2nd Forum “Press and Enterprises Accompanying for a Prosperous and Happy Vietnam” - 2024, held on October 24, Mr. Pham Van The - Chairman of the Quang Ninh Provincial Business Association said that enterprises with production and business functions really need the press - a reputable information channel to be able to promote their products and business activities to customers and consumers. Through the press, enterprises also understand new regulations and policies, thereby orienting their development appropriately.

However, Mr. Pham Van The also frankly stated the reality, every day businesses reported receiving dozens of phone calls from newspaper and radio reporters. After checking, it was determined that most of them were collaborators of magazines. The meetings were all related to in-depth research on various issues of the business, and finally mentioned the quotation, which could be up to hundreds of millions of VND. This affects the psychology as well as the production and business process of the business, and can cause great economic damage.

Responding to this issue, Mr. Le Quoc Minh - Member of the Party Central Committee, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association said that the Vietnam Journalists Association, under the direction of the Central Propaganda Department and the Ministry of Information and Communications, has recently carried out signing ceremonies on building a cultural environment in press agencies, however, the situation of harassment of businesses still occurs a lot, not only that, this problem also occurs with local authorities and people.

Mr. Le Quoc Minh said, according to the reflection, the rate of such incidents often occurs in magazines. There are magazines established with many “nothings” - no headquarters, no budget, no contracts, no salaries, thus creating collaborators who spread out to find sources of income by threatening and harassing businesses.

In reality, the Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association believes that some businesses are not operating properly, so the press comes to work and feels scared, some businesses are afraid so they respond to the requests of press agencies, causing this group of collaborators to have a source of income, even this newspaper learns from that newspaper, forming groups to bother businesses.

"We recommend that in cases of threats and harassment, businesses should boldly refuse to cooperate and report to the Ministry of Information and Communications and the Vietnam Journalists Association so that we have a basis for drastic handling," Mr. Le Quoc Minh emphasized.

According to Mr. Minh, the Ministry of Information and Communications has dealt with violations very seriously, revoked operating licenses, and in some cases revoked the document certificates and press cards of press agency leaders.

The Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association commented that building a sustainable cooperative relationship between the press and businesses still faces many difficulties, affecting the effectiveness of information and propaganda work. On the other hand, due to many other ways to reach users, many businesses gradually underestimate the role of the press, even "forgetting" the press in brand communication campaigns. "In fact, if the mainstream press encounters difficulties and is weakened, businesses themselves will be significantly affected," said Mr. Minh.

Mr. Pham Tan Cong - Chairman of the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) said that right after the Forum, VCCI will make efforts to coordinate with Nhan Dan Newspaper in implementing the plan to build a database of Vietnamese enterprises. VCCI with a system of 200 member business associations, with a network of 63 provincial business associations, the verification and verification of information about enterprises will be carried out promptly and accurately, supporting the search for information of foreign organizations or enterprises when they want to invest and cooperate with Vietnam.

Regarding the issue of press cooperation between enterprises, the Chairman of VCCI suggested that enterprises should pay special attention to their communication channels, not just follow online advertising controlled by foreign organizations. "VCCI will be responsible for guiding Vietnamese enterprises on closely coordinating with press agencies to carry out communication in the future," Chairman Pham Tan Cong affirmed.

Need to proactively communicate and not handle media crises with money

Discussing this issue, from the perspective of state management, Ms. Dang Thi Phuong Thao - Deputy Director of the Press Department, Ministry of Information and Communications said that the Department regularly receives cases related to businesses and press agencies. "However, it must be affirmed that the relationship between the press and businesses is "inseparable". Therefore, it is necessary to find solutions to maintain and create positive consensus for this relationship" , Ms. Thao commented.

According to Ms. Dang Thi Phuong Thao, of the 21 thousand journalists granted cards nationwide, 39% have a degree in journalism. According to a survey, there are not many reporters who are good at writing about economics in newsrooms. To improve the quality of economic information, businesses and press agencies should use a system of experts to evaluate and criticize information and provide more in-depth knowledge about economics.

"The authenticity, transparency, and objectivity of economic information are extremely important, because just one piece of false information will have a major impact on stock prices, causing assets to "evaporate". In addition, editorial offices need to increase readers' interactive opinions so that they can choose topics and organize in-depth seminars and workshops on current economic issues," said Ms. Thao.

On the business side, Ms. Dang Thi Phuong Thao said that VCCI needs to organize training courses for business owners on how to contact the press to provide transparent information, ensure business safety and improve efficiency in relations with the press. It is recommended that businesses proactively provide information, be transparent, handle the root cause and not handle media crises with money, and not assist bad journalists. Instead, cooperate with authorities to handle violations.

Recently, the Ministry of Information and Communications has introduced the Whitelist initiative - a list of licensed units with "clean" content, recommended for advertising and the Blacklist - a list of social media channels and websites with harmful content, violating the law and brands not allowed to advertise on them. In addition, the Ministry also has an index to evaluate the level of digital transformation of press agencies, businesses can refer to those information pages to have appropriate activities, improving economic efficiency.

In the coming time, the Deputy Director of the Press Department emphasized that the Ministry of Information and Communications will continue to strengthen coordination with State management agencies in supporting press agencies on the right to access information of enterprises and enterprises to proactively inform the press to create two-way, healthy information activities in accordance with legal regulations.

"The press not only provides news information but also provides knowledge and understanding to help businesses operate in the right direction and help people access accurate and objective information. Press management agencies are making great efforts to build a sustainable cooperative relationship between the press and businesses," Ms. Dang Thi Phuong Thao emphasized.
