In previous seasons, teams competed in a double round robin, followed by the final round to compete for the championship and relegation. Starting this season, the tournament will only be played once, divided into two stages. Mr. Le Tri Truong, General Secretary of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation (VFV), said that with the new format, there will be fewer matches, higher competition, and teams will be less likely to give up points.
The actual competition shows that teams with good investment, high-performance players, and high concentration in each match have achieved corresponding results. Although the Signal Corps team ranked first in the first stage, they did not perform well in the second leg, so they fell out of the top 4 and lost their ticket to the semi-finals. Many matches between teams competing for the top 4 were dramatic, competing for every point, satisfying the viewers.
Long Son Thanh Hoa Cement team exploded in the second leg when they recruited a high-class foreign player from China, Liu Yanhan, and had good coordination even though the domestic players were not as good as the Information Corps team. The second place in the group stage after the second stage and the ticket to the semi-finals were worthy achievements for Thanh Hoa team and they continued to hope for a ticket to the final. Although VTV Binh Dien Long An team did not have Tran Thi Thanh Thuy, who was playing abroad in Türkiye, they managed to call back veteran hitters such as Ngoc Hoa and Kim Thanh. This team also had a good foreign player of German origin, Joyce Agbolossou, in addition to the high performance of young talent Tra My. The training trip in Japan before the tournament helped Long An team overcome their defensive weaknesses and they proved their progress by taking the top spot in the rankings.
The “rich” team Duc Giang Chemicals also showed the effectiveness of their investment when maintaining their form. Meanwhile, the defending champion LPBank Ninh Binh, although not in good form, the bravery of Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen helped them escape spectacularly, taking the last ticket to the semi-finals.
Tomorrow (November 15), the semi-finals of the 2024 National Women's Volleyball Championship will take place with two equally matched matches. In the first semi-final, VTV Binh Dien Long An Club (first place in the qualifying round) will meet LPBank Ninh Binh Club (fourth place). The remaining semi-final is Long Son Thanh Hoa Cement Club (second place) will meet Duc Giang Chemical Club (third place).
In addition to the championship race, the relegation battle between the four teams Hanoi, Thai Binh, Quang Ninh, and the Bank for Industry and Trade is also extremely intense, with each match being considered a final. The two teams with poor results will be relegated. From the 2025 season, the national women's volleyball championship will be even better with only 8 teams instead of 9 as it is now. Previously, Ho Chi Minh City Club was the team that won the A division championship and won the only ticket to play in the 2025 national championship.
