The workshop “Dien Bien promotes potential and advantages for sustainable tourism development” received more than 80 quality presentations from managers, experts, scientists and travel businesses from the central and local levels.
The opinions discussed and exchanged directly at the workshop revolved around three main groups of contents. One is to affirm and deepen the theoretical and practical basis for sustainable tourism development in Vietnam and Dien Bien province, in which the pillars of cultural - social - economic environment are taken for harmonious development. Two is to analyze and evaluate the potential, the situation of tourism development, the impact factors and the issues raised for tourism development in Dien Bien. Three is to discuss and propose solutions for rapid and sustainable tourism development in Dien Bien from now until 2030.
Attending the workshop, Associate Professor Dr. Tran Dinh Thien, former Director of the Vietnam Economic Institute, said that Dien Bien's tourism potential is only at comparative advantage, not yet competitive advantage. Therefore, it needs many multi-faceted "pushes", in which culture and people are the central factors. "The local approach must be institutional, how to attract rich and talented people. This is extremely difficult in Vietnam, Dien Bien must overcome that, so that those who come will expand their vision with the locality. If that can be done, Dien Bien will win".
The national scientific conference "Dien Bien promotes its potential and advantages for sustainable tourism development" plays an important role in the series of events of the National Tourism Year 2024. It is a highly specialized conference and provides orientation for tourism development for Dien Bien province in the coming period.
Speaking at the workshop, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha emphasized that Dien Bien needs to promote creativity, unleash all resources to attract investment, create development momentum commensurate with its priceless tourism potential; however, it is necessary to ensure harmony, in accordance with the Provincial Planning just approved by the Prime Minister.
"It is possible to build one or more hotels, to develop one or a series of urban areas, but the consistent thinking is to be harmonious, to pay attention to preservation and conservation; to determine that artificial structures must always promote and enhance the natural beauty, not overwhelm or lose the naturalness," Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha said.
The results of the Workshop will contribute to continuing to effectively implement the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws on tourism development in general as well as exploiting the potentials and developing sustainable tourism advantages in Dien Bien province in particular.
