Science and technology serve economic development effectively

On June 28, in Ha Tinh, a working delegation of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) led by Deputy Minister Tran Hong Thai had a working session with the People's Committee of Ha Tinh province.

Science, technology and innovation are deployed in many fields, with many innovations.

Reporting at the meeting, Director of the Department of Science and Technology Bui Quang Hoan said that in recent times, State management of science, technology and innovation in the province has been comprehensively implemented in all fields and has had many innovations.

In the field of intellectual property, there have been many outstanding results. Up to now, the whole province has 2,943 industrial property objects supported for registration, an increase of more than 8 times compared to 2015. In the province, 16 products have been registered for community brand protection; 6 products are being deployed to support the development of intellectual property.

In the field of Medicine, research on herbs that can limit some common cancers, application of "Vietnamese Yoga Therapy" to restore function for patients with sequelae of cerebrovascular accident. Many pharmaceutical research results are commercialized, produced and brought to market.

The province's direction also focuses on applying biotechnology to treat the environment, produce organic fertilizers; apply automation technology in fruit and vegetable production, and process agricultural products and food. Many new technologies are applied such as reinforced scraping technology and on-site cold recycling; polymer mortar coating, production of concrete pipes, unburnt bricks and concrete structures or processing fish sauce using a solar-powered heating system...

Scientific research, application and technological innovation have contributed to improving product quality, especially in developing key local products. Currently, the province has 16 products registered for community brand protection, 6 products have been deployed to support intellectual property development such as Phuc Trach grapefruit, Huong Son deer antlers, Thuong Loc oranges, Vu Quang oranges, Cu Do Ha Tinh candy, Ky Ninh fish sauce. Of which, 2 products are protected by geographical indications: Phuc Trach grapefruit and Huong Son deer antlers.

Innovative start-up activities are invested in, searched for and incubated, and start-up projects with development potential are supported. State management activities on standards, measurement, and quality are enhanced.

Research, application, transfer of science and technology and innovation activities have made many important contributions to socio-economic development.

From 2020 to present, the Department of Science and Technology has directed the implementation of 2 State-level tasks under the Gene Fund Program; 11 projects under the Mountainous Rural Program; 87 provincial-level topics and projects with many outstanding results, contributing to the development of the fields of health, culture, agriculture, new rural construction, etc.

In addition to the achieved results, science and technology activities in the province still have some limitations such as: the province's science and technology capacity has not met the requirements of innovation, the science and technology market has developed slowly; the capacity to absorb technology and innovate technology in enterprises is still low; the State budget investment in science and technology has not met the requirements of the tasks...

At the meeting, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Vo Trong Hai said that in the coming time, Ha Tinh province will continue to closely follow and concretize policies and guidelines on science and technology development; improve the capacity of science and technology staff; strengthen State management; strengthen coordination with scientific associations and experts to cooperate in research and order scientific topics, etc.

The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee proposed that the Ministry of Science and Technology continue to support a number of programs and projects related to science and technology activities; connect with diplomatic agencies and international organizations to call for funding for science and technology programs and projects, climate change, and natural disaster prevention; support Ha Tinh with a number of science and technology tasks to sustainably develop the marine economy, develop intellectual property of Ha Tinh's unique products, logistics services, supporting industries, high-tech agriculture, etc.

Promote research and application of scientific and technological achievements for economic development

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Tran Hong Thai acknowledged the achievements of Ha Tinh province in science, technology and innovation activities.

The Deputy Minister said that Ha Tinh province's economic growth in 2023 ranked 15th out of 63 provinces and cities nationwide and the highest in the North Central region. In the first 6 months of 2024, it ranked 20th nationwide and 2nd in the North Central region (after Thanh Hoa). "Many factors have contributed to the achievements in economic growth and cultural and social development in the province in recent times. The most important of which is the change in thinking and vision of provincial leaders at all levels in making science and technology the main driving force for economic growth and cultural and social development. Specifically, promoting research, development and application of science and technology in the province's socio-economic fields," said the Deputy Minister.

The report on the results of the province's science and technology activities shows that the state management of science and technology and innovation has been comprehensively implemented in all fields and has many innovations; research, application and transfer of science and technology advances in the province have achieved many outstanding results in recent times, making positive contributions to the province's socio-economic development. According to the Deputy Minister, in addition to the achieved results, there are still difficulties and obstacles that make the development of science and technology activities in the province not commensurate with its advantages and potentials. Therefore, the province needs to continue to pay attention, lead and direct more closely the activities of science, technology and innovation in the area to effectively serve the goals and tasks of socio-economic development in the locality, maximizing the potential and advantages of the province.

At the same time, promote research and application of advanced science and technology achievements, new technology, high technology in developing marine economy towards blue marine economy, circular economy, in line with the Strategy for sustainable development of Vietnam's marine economy to 2030, vision to 2045 (Resolution No. 36-NQ/TW), focusing on the following areas: aquaculture and seafood exploitation; high-tech agriculture; ecotourism and marine services; exploitation of marine resources and minerals, harmoniously combining exploitation and processing with environmental protection, conservation of marine biodiversity; renewable energy, etc.

In addition, it is necessary to promote applied research and transfer of scientific and technological advances in environmental protection and biodiversity conservation; exploit and use natural resources effectively and sustainably; improve the ability to respond to natural disasters and effectively adapt to climate change. Research and apply science and technology to develop culture and society; preserve and promote the values ​​of traditional cultural heritage of the locality...

Regarding the recommendations and proposals of the locality, the Deputy Minister of Science and Technology also requested the units under the Ministry to receive, study and coordinate with the locality to soon have a plan to propose support to remove difficulties, in order to help the province's science and technology develop. At the same time, he affirmed that the Ministry of Science and Technology is always ready to coordinate and accompany the province to implement science and technology tasks and innovation to serve the socio-economic development goals of the province and the country./.
