By registering for One Skill Retake (OSR), candidates can retake any IELTS skill in the four skills of listening, speaking, reading or writing instead of having to retake the entire test.
OSR was first introduced in Australia in November 2022 and has now been deployed in 112 countries and territories worldwide, including many Southeast Asian countries such as Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia and the Philippines. Recently, the Ministry of Education and Training has licensed IELTS test co-owners to deploy the OSR feature in Vietnam.
Sharing with Thanh Nien reporters on the morning of April 9, the British Council informed that candidates can register for the IELTS OSR test from April 4 through the online test registration system.
To register for OSR, candidates must complete the IELTS test on computer and receive their initial test results from a test center that offers the IELTS OSR feature. Candidates must register for OSR within 60 days of completing their first IELTS test. Additionally, candidates can only re-register for one skill for each completed IELTS test.
Candidates in Vietnam who choose to retake an IELTS test will receive a new test report form that includes their updated OSR score along with the scores for the other three skills from their first test. Candidates have the option to use their original or new score report form.
On the registration portal, candidates can view their IELTS test results, and if they want to improve a skill, simply select the Retake button.
According to the British Council, the OSR exam fee is 2,940,000 VND (including VAT). The first IELTS OSR test date of the British Council will take place from 14.4.
Andrew Mackenzie, British Council's Director of IELTS, said OSR allows candidates to retake a skill if they feel their first test result does not reflect their best English ability.
In addition, Ms. Donna McGowan, Director of the British Council in Vietnam, shared: "Along with a rich source of IELTS test preparation materials, OSR will be another effective support that the British Council brings to candidates in Vietnam."
The year 2024, when this new feature is applied, marks the 35th anniversary of the launch of the IELTS test and the 90th anniversary of the British Council. Currently, more than 12,000 organizations worldwide have recognized IELTS certificates. And in Vietnam, more than 100 higher education institutions accept the conversion of IELTS test results into English subject scores for admission.
