Free heart disease screening for children in Hoang Dong commune, Lang Son city.

To facilitate people to bring their children for examination, doctors of the Cardiovascular Center, Hanoi E Hospital have organized heart screening in classrooms for children at educational institutions and at district and city medical centers.

This meaningful program has brought opportunities for poor families with economic difficulties in remote areas, ethnic minority areas in Lang Son province to be examined and screened to detect early symptoms of heart disease for timely treatment and intervention, so the number of people bringing their children to heart examination points is quite large...

After taking her son Vu Trung Kien (4 years old) for a screening and ultrasound, knowing the results showed that her son did not have any heart-related disease, Ms. Nong Thuy Trang (Hoang Dong commune, Lang Son city) was very happy and reassured.

Ms. Trang commented that this program is very practical. Through visits and screening, many schools have detected children with diseases early for timely treatment, avoiding serious progression of the disease.

Receiving the ultrasound results of her son Pham Manh Cuong (10 years old) not having cardiovascular disease, Ms. Nong Thi Tuyet (Hoang Van Thu ward, Lang Son city) felt happy.

Ms. Tuyet said that the free cardiovascular examination and consultation program for children under 16 years old is very meaningful for all families, especially for poor and near-poor households, people in disadvantaged areas, and ethnic minority areas because they have few conditions to take their children for regular medical checkups.

Master, Doctor Bui Quang Huy, Deputy Head of Pediatric Cardiology Department, Cardiovascular Center, Hanoi E Hospital said that in 4 days, more than 8,000 children were examined by doctors. As a result, more than 10 cases were detected that required surgery and 10 other cases with signs of cardiovascular disease are being monitored further.

This is the 14th year that the Cardiovascular Center, Hanoi E Hospital has implemented the free cardiovascular examination and consultation program for children under 16 years old in Lang Son province.

In fact, through screening, the number of children with heart disease who have not received treatment or intervention in this locality is decreasing. For children who are indicated for surgery but whose families are in difficult economic circumstances, policy families will be guided to complete the registration form for free surgery funding support.

Master, Doctor Bui Quang Huy recommends that, in order to detect early and treat heart disease promptly, people should take their children to medical facilities for congenital heart screening, especially in cases with symptoms of cyanosis, difficulty breathing, recurrent pneumonia, stunted growth, and slow development.
