Opening of the third Book and Reading Culture Day

On the evening of April 17, at the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam (Hanoi), the Central Propaganda Department, the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Hanoi People's Committee, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Vietnam Publishing Association jointly organized the opening ceremony of the third Book and Reading Culture Day - 2024. Comrades: Nguyen Trong Nghia, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda Department; Nguyen Manh Hung, Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Information and Communications attended.

The series of activities of the third Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day in 2024 have the following messages: "Good books need readers"; "Precious books for friends"; "Give good books - Buy real books"; "Good books: Eyes read - Ears listen".

Activities at the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam will take place until April 21 with the following activities: Organizing an exhibition of valuable books about the special national historical site of the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam; photos and books about the country and people of Vietnam on modern electronic versions and direct publications; a book fair with 60 participating units, displaying, introducing and providing readers with over 40,000 valuable books; many seminars, book introductions, exchanges with authors and works; typical art programs... Responding to the Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day in localities, the core forces are: Department of Information and Communications; The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism together with the Library system, publishers, and publishing enterprises in the area will organize many rich, diverse, and practical activities to celebrate the third Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day in 2024, associated with political tasks and major holidays in 2024, which will be held in April 2024.

Speaking at the ceremony, Head of the Central Propaganda Department Nguyen Trong Nghia emphasized: The series of activities and events celebrating the third Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day held in Hanoi, as well as across the country, have contributed practically to promoting the beauty of traditional culture, encouraging and developing the reading movement in the community. To bring books closer to readers, to spread knowledge more and more, culture becomes an endogenous strength, a resource and a driving force for national development, as affirmed in the Documents of the 13th National Party Congress.

Comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia suggested that Party committees, authorities, departments, ministries and branches at all levels promote propaganda and education work, raise awareness in the political system and the whole society about the position, meaning and importance of Books and Reading Culture. All levels need to focus on investing in and supporting the establishment of institutions and reading promotion activities in the school system, agencies and units to create reading habits among all classes of people; encourage good models in reading, researching and applying knowledge from books to life; promote the creation of works, books and projects of high value in ideology, science, education and culture, serving the increasingly diverse and rich needs of readers; promote digital transformation in publishing; exploit new forms of publishing; expand exchanges and cooperation, actively participate in international book activities.
