(TN&MT) - On the afternoon of February 5, in Hanoi, the Government Office held a regular Government press conference for January 2025, which was also the first press conference after the Lunar New Year holiday. Minister and Head of the Government Office Tran Van Son, Government Spokesperson, chaired the press conference.
The press conference was attended by representatives of relevant ministries and branches and many reporters from news agencies and newspapers.
At the beginning of the press conference, on the occasion of the New Year of At Ty 2025, Minister and Head of the Government Office Tran Van Son wished leaders of ministries, branches, reporters and editors good health, happiness, success and many achievements in the new year.
Socio-economics maintain positive recovery momentum
The Government spokesperson said that on the morning of the same day, the Government held a regular meeting for January 2025 chaired by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. The meeting aimed to assess the socio-economic situation in January 2025, implement Resolution 01 of the Government, develop economic growth scenarios in localities, promote disbursement of public investment capital and implement three national target programs. In addition, the meeting also mentioned the direction and administration of the Government, key tasks in the coming time and some other important contents.
The meeting took place right after the Lunar New Year holiday of At Ty 2025, in the context of many unpredictable developments in the world situation, especially the risk of a global trade war. Domestically, ministries, branches and localities are focusing on implementing the task of arranging and streamlining the organizational apparatus according to Resolution 18. At the same time, they are vigorously implementing tasks in many fields with high goals to prepare and organize well the country's major holidays.
Immediately after the Government's Conference with localities to summarize the work in 2024 and deploy tasks in 2025, the Government issued Resolutions No. 01 and 02, and at the same time the Prime Minister issued the 2025 Work Program with 468 specific projects. The Government's motto for action in 2025 is: "Discipline and responsibility; proactive and timely; streamlined and effective; accelerated breakthrough".
At the meeting, the Government unanimously assessed that although the number of working days was less than the same period, the socio-economic situation in January 2025 still maintained a positive recovery momentum, achieving many important results:
The Lunar New Year of At Ty took place joyfully, warmly, safely and economically; everyone and every family had a Tet. The Government supported and gave Tet gifts to more than 13.5 million beneficiaries with a total budget of nearly 8 trillion VND. Of which, more than 3.8 million people from poor and near-poor households, children in especially difficult circumstances and the elderly were supported. In addition, the State also distributed over 6.6 thousand tons of relief rice.
The macro economy continues to be stable, inflation is under control, and major balances are ensured. The consumer price index (CPI) increased by 3.63% over the same period last year. The money market and exchange rate are basically stable; lending interest rates maintain a downward trend. Total state budget revenue reached nearly 276 trillion VND, equal to 14% of the annual estimate, up 3.5% over the same period in 2024. Exports continued to grow with a trade surplus of 1.23 billion USD.
Key sectors and areas showed signs of improvement: The Industrial Production Index (IIP) increased by 0.6%, of which the processing and manufacturing industry increased by 1.6%. Agriculture, forestry and fishery developed steadily. Total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in January increased by 9.5% over the same period.
Development investment achieved positive results. Registered foreign direct investment (FDI) reached 3.55 billion USD, up 21.8% over the same period. Realized FDI reached 1.51 billion USD, up 2%.
Attention is paid to cultural and social fields. Cultural and sports activities to celebrate the Party and Spring take place vibrantly, ensuring conformity with traditional customs.
Political and social stability; national defense and security are maintained; social order and safety are ensured. The work of preventing and combating corruption and negativity is promoted.
Foreign affairs and international integration have achieved many important milestones with the negotiation and signing of many international treaties and agreements.
However, in addition to the achieved results, the Government also frankly pointed out some shortcomings and difficulties such as great pressure in macroeconomic management, public investment disbursement not meeting requirements, some production and business sectors facing difficulties, and the lives of a segment of the population still facing many challenges.
The Prime Minister requested ministries, sectors and localities to resolutely carry out their tasks right from the beginning of the year, focusing on perfecting institutions, streamlining the apparatus, promoting public investment, supporting businesses and improving people's lives. The Government will continue to prioritize solutions to promote economic growth, control inflation, enhance social security and protect the environment.
Prime Minister directs drastic implementation of many socio-economic development measures in 2025
At the end of the press conference, Minister Tran Van Son emphasized the Government's determination to successfully implement the socio-economic development goals for 2025. This includes the Prime Minister's drastic directions to implement many socio-economic development measures for 2025.
In particular, the Prime Minister requested to perfect institutions in the spirit of "breakthrough of breakthroughs", strengthen measures to streamline the apparatus, reform administration, and digital transformation. Ministries, branches, and localities must urgently review, supplement, and perfect legal regulations in the direction of promptly removing obstacles.
Regarding economic growth, the Government focused on promoting investment, disbursing public investment capital from the beginning of the year, and accelerating the progress of strategic transport infrastructure projects. The goal is to complete at least 3,000 km of highways and 1,000 km of coastal roads by the end of 2025. Along with that, it will promote attracting foreign direct investment (FDI), especially in the fields of processing, manufacturing, semiconductors, hydrogen, etc.
Regarding trade, the Government requires expanding export markets, effectively exploiting free trade agreements (FTAs), and ensuring trade balance. Measures to stimulate consumption, develop e-commerce, and non-cash payments are also promoted.
The Prime Minister stressed the importance of maintaining macroeconomic stability, controlling inflation, ensuring major balances of the economy, in which electricity must grow by 12.5-13%. Fiscal and monetary policies need to be operated flexibly and effectively, striving for credit growth of over 16% and reducing lending interest rates.
In addition, the Government requires ensuring social security, so that no one is left without food, clothing, medical treatment or school. Social housing programs and the movement to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses will be vigorously implemented in 2025.
The Government also emphasized strengthening national defense and security, ensuring social order and safety, and preventing corruption, waste, and negativity. Strengthening information and communication work, creating social consensus, and being determined to complete the socio-economic development goals by 2025.
