More than 50,000 ships passed through the seaport in 6 months

According to the Vietnam Maritime Administration, in the first 6 months of 2024, a total of 50,553 ships passed through Vietnamese seaports, an increase of 4% over the same period in 2023. Of which, the number of foreign ships passing through reached 24,017, an increase of 9%. The number of domestic ships passing through reached 26,536, a decrease of 1% over the same period in 2023.

In the first 6 months of 2023, there were more than 50,000 ships passing through Vietnamese seaports.

The number of ships entering and leaving the country reached 3,568, an increase compared to the same period last year (up 18%). However, the number of ships running domestic routes decreased by about 3%, reaching 22,968.

The number of inland waterway vehicles passing through in the first 6 months of the year also increased compared to the same period last year, reaching 185,951 (up 12%). Of which, the number of inland waterway vehicles registered for VR-SB passing through reached 28,689, up 12%.

The growth in ship throughput through the port corresponds to the growth in cargo throughput through the port.

Specifically, the total volume of goods passing through seaports in the first 6 months of the year reached more than 426 million tons, up 18%. Of which, goods passing through ports by sea vessels reached more than 296 million tons, up 17% and goods passing through ports by inland waterways increased 18%, reaching more than 130 million tons.

The international passenger ship market has also seen some improvements. In the first 6 months of 2024, the number of passengers passing through the seaport reached 4.314 million, an increase of 7% over the same period in 2023, with international passengers reaching 564.4 thousand (mainly passengers from the shore to the island, accounting for 90% of the total number of passengers passing through).
