More than 3,000 people walk for the poor

On the morning of December 1, at Luu Huu Phuoc Park, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho City coordinated with the Department of Culture - Sports and Tourism, the City Youth Union and related units to organize the program "Walking for the poor, responding to the emulation movement to join hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses" for the second time in 2024.

More than 3,000 people walked together for the poor starting from Luu Huu Phuoc Park, Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City.

The program attracted more than 3,000 participants to walk along a walking route of about 2.5km to contribute to spreading the message of love. This is a practical activity in response to the emulation movement "Joining hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide in 2025" launched by the Prime Minister.

Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho City Nguyen Trung Nhan said that recently, the city's leaders have had many policies and implemented good policies for people with revolutionary contributions, poor and near-poor households, and households in especially difficult circumstances.

From 2019 to present, from the resources contributed to the Fund "For the Poor", the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee - the Mobilization Committee of the Fund "For the Poor" at all city levels, member organizations have coordinated to build, repair and hand over 2,819 solidarity houses to poor, near-poor and disadvantaged households with a budget of over 140 billion VND.

According to Mr. Nguyen Trung Nhan, the whole city currently has about 1,000 temporary and dilapidated houses that need support to build houses (lacking the 3 hard criteria), of which about 2/3 of the households lack conditions for land for construction. The city is determined to eliminate 100% of temporary and dilapidated houses by September 2025 to practically make achievements to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South, National Reunification and to welcome the 15th City Party Congress, term 2025 - 2030.

“On the occasion of the city organizing the “Accompanying the Poor” Walking Program in response to the emulation movement “Joining hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses” for the second time in 2024, we look forward to receiving the attention and support of the City’s leaders; earnestly calling for and looking forward to continuing to receive the attention and support of agencies, units, businesses, philanthropists, religious organizations, and individuals inside and outside the city to join hands and contribute through the “For the Poor” Fund of the city and localities, in order to create resources to care for the poor and households with difficult housing circumstances, successfully implementing the emulation movement “Joining hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses” launched by the Prime Minister,” said Mr. Nguyen Trung Nhan.

At the program "Walking for the poor, responding to the emulation movement Joining hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses" for the second time in 2024, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee - Mobilization Committee for the Poor Fund of Can Tho City presented 10 Great Solidarity houses to poor households, near-poor households, and households with difficult housing circumstances in the city in response to the emulation movement "Joining hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in Can Tho City".

Also at the program, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho City received the support and response of many organizations and businesses contributing to the city's "For the Poor" Fund with a total amount of more than 4 billion VND.
