More than 2,000 people donated blood during Tet holiday

NDO - During the 9-day Lunar New Year holiday, from January 25 to February 2 (December 26 to the 5th day of Tet), 2,019 people came to the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion to donate blood and platelets, of which 1,390 people donated blood and 629 people donated platelets.


Despite the Tet holiday, the blood donation point at the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion is still open to welcome people to donate blood and platelets every day. On average, the Institute receives 154 units of blood and 70 units of platelets per day, the same number as in 2024.

During this time, many medical staff donated blood after their shifts. Ms. Tran Thi Huyen and Mr. Tran Duc Thanh (Stem Cell Transplant Department) donated blood after their shift on New Year's Eve. In particular, Ms. Huyen was invited to donate phenotype blood to patients in need.

Working on the Tet shift, many years on New Year's Eve at the Institute, Master, Doctor Hoang Chi Cuong still maintains the habit of donating platelets to contribute more New Year gifts to patients. This year's 29th Tet is Doctor Cuong's 200th platelet donation.

Nurse Quoc Cuong, Department of General Hematology, also donated blood on the second day of Tet. Cuong shared: "Every year I try to donate blood at the beginning of the year to hope that the new year will bring more luck and success in work and life and to save more patients."

On the 5th day of Tet, Dr. Vu Duc Binh, Deputy Director of the Central Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, along with doctors and nurses on duty on the 5th day of Tet, donated blood.

For many years, Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Huy Hoang and the young officers of the Capital Police have maintained the habit of donating blood after their shift on Tet holiday. Senior Lieutenant Le Thanh Tung (Nghia Do Ward Police, Cau Giay) confided: “This is my 20th time donating blood. This memory is even more special because it takes place on the first day of the Lunar New Year. After our lunch break, we are ready to respond directly. The happiest thing is to do something small but practical to serve the people.”

Nurse Quoc Cuong, Department of General Hematology also donated blood on the second day of Tet.

Also during the Tet holiday, the Institute provided more than 4,600 blood products of various types (of which red blood cells alone were over 1,700 units) to 76 medical facilities in 18 provinces/cities.

To prepare for the blood reserve at hospitals, in the week before Tet (January 20-24), the institute provided a huge amount of blood, up to over 13,000 units of red blood cells and over 6,500 blood products. On January 21, the institute provided a record 3,739 units of red blood cells. This amount of blood has contributed to ensuring the emergency and treatment needs of medical facilities in 26 provinces/cities, including remote localities such as Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Son La... and Can Tho, Quang Binh.

The National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion hopes that people with good health, especially those with blood type O, will actively donate blood after Tet. The Spring Festival with the message “Spring Blood Donation – Multiplying Happiness” will take place from February 8 to February 16.
