On June 18, the Health and Environment Magazine in Can Tho City held the opening ceremony of the 15th Mekong Delta Open Billiards Tournament. The tournament is one of the events to celebrate the 98th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2023).
This year’s tournament brings together more than 100 players from 60 press agencies in the Mekong Delta region. The competitions take place throughout the day, following a draw format (2 players per team) with a knockout format to select the first, second and third prize winners. The organizing committee will award gold, silver and bronze medals, flags and trophies to the winning teams with a total value of more than 30 million VND.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Tuan, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City, said that the Mekong Delta Press Billiards Tournament has become a traditional playground with many meanings for journalists. This is an opportunity for those working in the field of media and journalism to have the opportunity to exchange, learn, and share professional experiences, and to practice health together with a noble sportsmanship spirit.
According to the organizers, although it is a grassroots playground, the Mekong Delta press billiards tournament has been well organized for many years (except in 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic), becoming increasingly large-scale and professional, becoming a prestigious brand in and outside the region.
On the same day, the 10th press billiards tournament in 2023 in the Ben Tre - Tien Giang - Long An region was also held at the Ben Tre Provincial Sports Talent School (Phu Khuong Ward, Ben Tre City). The tournament gathered 50 players who are reporters, editors, technicians, collaborators, media officers... of press agencies and resident reporters in the three provinces of Ben Tre, Tien Giang, Long An. Each player participating in the tournament was supported by 1 million VND by the organizing committee.
This is a sports and entertainment activity for journalists to have fun, exchange and learn from each other's experiences on the occasion of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day. At the same time, it strengthens the relationship, solidarity and friendship between media officials and journalists in the three provinces of Ben Tre, Tien Giang and Long An.
The prize structure includes: 1 first prize for pairs of players including flag and cash (6 million VND); 1 second prize: flag and cash (4 million VND); 1 third prize: flag and cash (2 million VND) and 1 consolation prize including flag and cash (1 million VND).
