California leads the nation with more than 1.5 million voters casting ballots, followed by Georgia with more than 1.1 million votes. Florida, Michigan and Virginia each have more than 900,000 voters casting ballots.
Voters cast early ballots in North Carolina on October 17.
Notably, North Carolina saw a record number of early voters on the first day of early voting, even as the state was still recovering from Hurricane Helene. More than 353,000 North Carolina voters cast ballots on October 17, up 1.3% from the previous record of 348,559 in 2020. The new record shows that voters are enthusiastic, trust the electoral process, and that the storm did not deter their right to vote.
US Election: Record number of early voters in battleground state amid regulatory controversy
The Wall Street Journal on October 19 quoted former US President Donald Trump declaring that he would impose high tariffs on Chinese goods if Beijing "entered Taiwan". "I want to say that if you enter Taiwan, I regret having to do this, I will tax you from 150% to 200%," Mr. Trump said about his intention if elected.
Regarding the possibility of the US using military force if mainland China blockades Taiwan, the Republican candidate said that would not happen because Chinese President Xi Jinping respects him.
