During its 48-year journey of establishment, UEH has affirmed its important position in the Vietnamese higher education system.
According to the record, UEH is one of the first universities in the country to achieve international accreditation at the FIBAA Educational Institution level (Europe), and is in the Top 401+ of the best universities in Asia (according to QS Asia 2023). Most recently, the school also led universities in Vietnam in contributing to the 17 sustainable development goals of the United Nations on the THE Impact Rankings 2023. To achieve this achievement, the school emphasized two important strategies.
Developing scientific research from within is an important foundation to improve training quality to meet international standards.
Implementing the international integration policy of the Party and State, the strategy to promote autonomy and internationalization in Training, Scientific Research and University Administration of UEH started in 2012, based on the solid foundation of a prestigious, national key public university.
During that process, the school focuses on developing academic research, international publications and serving the community based on the school's internal strength. Over the past 10 years, UEH has implemented many research capacity building programs for its staff; implemented breakthrough policies in rewarding, sponsoring, and encouraging quality publications in parallel with building management regulations and rules on academic integrity. This explains the increasing number of scientific articles published in prestigious international journals of the school, reaching more than 500 articles per year, an average of more than 0.5 articles/lecturer and the number of lecturers with scientific research published internationally is increasing, accounting for nearly 40%. Of which, 85% of the articles published in journals are ranked in the Q1 and Q2 percentiles on the Scopus scientific database and more than 50% of the published articles are associated with 17 SDGs (United Nations Sustainable Development Goals).
According to the school, knowledge from research recognized by the world scientific community is the input for lectures and the foundation for quality training programs that meet international standards for learners. To date, UEH has 7 training programs that meet AUN-QA (ASEAN University Network for Quality Assurance) standards and 9 training programs that meet FIBAA (European International Quality Accreditation Standards) standards as well as this international standard at the university level.
The spirit of academic integrity and proactive recognition of challenges are the basis for sustainable development.
Developing research and international publications is a very new "internationalization" capacity for universities in Vietnam. Even prestigious, long-standing, experienced universities in the world are at risk in this process. For UEH, proactively integrating on the basis of internal strength, learning from the management experience of universities around the world and frankly identifying and adjusting existing problems in the implementation process are important foundations to overcome this challenge.
Since 2012, the school has gradually standardized the Code of Integrity in Scientific Research to promote the sustainable development of scientific research. At the same time, the Academic Integrity Council was established with the role of assessing the ethical and scientific aspects of research for approval and acceptance; supporting academic research projects; regularly warning about the list of journals removed from ISI, Scopus, the list of predatory and fake publishers; the "research traps" that scientists are likely to fall into. Also in the spirit of academic integrity, the scientific journal JABES (Journal of Asian Business and Economics Studies ) - one of the first Vietnamese journals in the field of economics and business was ranked in the top Q1 of the Scopus classification, helping the school to achieve a big step forward in the internationalization process.
In this way, over the years, the school has been able to listen to and promptly support scientists, especially young scientists of the school when they embark on the path of research. At the same time, it has resolutely handled violations in accordance with the prescribed procedures, even if they may be due to a lack of understanding or experience in the process of citing references, processing data, or mistakenly choosing poor quality journals, as in some cases related to scientific integrity in recent times.
"UEH will continue its internationalization path with research capacity contributing to the development of Vietnam and knowledge for the world's scientific community, to be worthy of being a key national public university of Vietnam. We choose to take the main path with the internal strength of the lecturers and staff of the school. Say no and resolutely handle deviant behaviors and individuals who violate the standards" - Professor Nguyen Dong Phong - Chairman of the University Council said.
