The conference is a practical activity, creating unity in awareness and action of the whole industry in effectively implementing the orientations, tasks and solutions set out in quality management. This is to ensure food safety, increase processing, expand and develop the agricultural, forestry and fishery market.

In recent times, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has focused on directing and coordinating with ministries, branches and localities to synchronously deploy solutions to remove difficulties, develop production and processing associated with quality and food safety (FS)...

Reporting at the Conference, Mr. Ngo Hong Phong - Director of the Department of Quality, Processing and Market Development summarized the work of ensuring food quality and safety, increasing processing, and developing the agricultural, forestry and fishery market in 2024 with positive results.

Currently, the country has issued 8,052 growing area codes and 1,596 packaging facility codes for export. Notably, 93 agricultural, forestry and fishery products have been ranked as national brands, an increase of 11% compared to 2022.

The monitoring agencies have collected more than 36,000 samples to monitor food safety indicators, detecting 660 violations, accounting for 1.8%. The industry has inspected 26,072 establishments producing and trading agricultural materials and agricultural, forestry and fishery products, and administratively sanctioned 1,705 establishments.

Regarding brand building, trademarks, geographical indications, organic agriculture development, high-tech agriculture: Currently, there are 14,642 OCOP products with 3 stars or more (an increase of 3,586 products compared to 2023). There are 93 agricultural, forestry and fishery products ranked according to the vote of the National Brand Program (an increase of 11% compared to 2022, when there were 85 products). Instructions for granting codes for growing areas, farming areas and traceability of agricultural and forestry products for export: To date, 8,052 codes for growing areas for export have been granted in 56 provinces and cities; 1,596 codes for packaging facilities for export for fresh fruits (dragon fruit, mango, star apple, banana, grapefruit, passion fruit, seedless lemon, longan, lychee, chili, black jelly, etc.) are allowed to be exported to the markets of China, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Korea, and Japan.

However, in 2024, the agricultural sector also faces many challenges such as supply chain disruptions, climate change impacts, and rising inflation.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Tran Thanh Nam said that food safety quality management in the coming time needs to be more practical and suitable for each region. In particular, the agricultural sector in particular needs to change its thinking about food safety management according to the value chain.

“Now, value chain management is needed to pull all links in the chain to be responsible for food safety. Not only supermarket systems and authorities, but also production facilities, from the preliminary processing and processing stages, must demonstrate responsibility in ensuring food safety. All localities should also apply this model to trace and assign responsibility to violating establishments,” the leader of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development emphasized.

The sad reality is that most processing plants today only care about machinery and not about food safety. This is one of the limitations and bottlenecks that cause Vietnamese agricultural products to be “blocked” in front of many potential markets.

Speaking at the Conference, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Tran Thanh Nam assessed: The work of quality management, food safety, processing, and market development has effectively completed the goals and targets of the 2024 plan. The Department of Processing Quality and Market Development has performed well its advisory function to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in state management of food safety from the central to local levels. To continue to effectively promote the work of quality management, food safety, processing, and market development. After the Lunar New Year 2025, the Department of Processing Quality and Market Development must organize training on Circular No. 17/2024/TT-BNNPTNT to local management agencies on food safety. Research and advise on amending Decree No. 15/2018/ND-CP accordingly.

Deputy Minister Tran Thanh Nam directed that quality must be developed from the root to enter multiple markets. The Vietnam SPS Office will also have to be the focal point, participating with localities to update the latest regulations of international markets, from which timely "responses" can be made.

OCOP products are favored by localities and consumers. These products comply with quality requirements from local to central levels. Currently, there are about 15,000 OCOP products of all kinds, opening up many prospects for production and economic development. These products are promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in European countries, Japan, Dubai, etc.
