Reporting on the industry's achievements, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Sac, President of VASEP, said: This year, the seafood industry's key goal is to restore seafood export turnover to 10 billion USD, in the context of inflation in major countries being controlled, the world economy has bottomed out, but is recovering slowly, affecting the demand for seafood consumption.
In addition, the Russia-Ukraine conflict, fighting in the Middle East and other geopolitical issues around the world continue to disrupt global trade; including the seafood market. The consequences have increased transportation costs, increased input prices for aquaculture, exploitation and seafood processing, causing a new inflationary storm that affects seafood consumption demand.
Despite facing many difficulties and challenges, with a creative spirit, flexible adaptability and determination, the Vietnamese seafood industry has overcome all difficulties to achieve an impressive achievement of 10 billion USD in seafood export turnover, including: shrimp reached 4 billion USD; pangasius 2 billion USD; tuna 1 billion USD; other fish 1.9 billion USD; squid and octopus 662 million USD; crabs and other crustaceans 335 million USD; shellfish 215 million USD; other mollusks 14.5 million USD.
The above figures show that the seafood industry is on the right track in sustainable development and increasing the added value of products. Vietnamese seafood enterprises are gradually promoting the application of science and technology in the farming and processing process, not only improving productivity and product quality but also contributing to expanding export markets. These advances have affirmed the position of the Vietnamese seafood industry, enhancing its competitiveness in the international arena.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien shared that our country's agricultural sector is approaching the end of 2024 with many brilliant successes, especially the flexibility in directing the organization of production and export of agricultural products. It is expected that the country's agricultural exports will reach the milestone of 62 billion USD, with a high trade surplus, including the contribution of the fisheries sector.
According to Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien, the end of a year with many challenges, conflicts and political instability in a number of countries and regions in the world led to high inflation, increased unemployment, economic instability in many countries, and the impact of market barriers greatly affected Vietnam's seafood exports. In addition, difficulties in the environment, epidemics, and natural disasters in general, especially Typhoon Yagi (Typhoon No. 3) caused great damage to the seafood industry, affecting hundreds of boats and thousands of hectares, thousands of aquaculture cages, causing economic losses of hundreds of billions of VND for businesses and farmers and fishermen, but the whole industry has overcome, maintaining growth and export turnover.
Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien affirmed that in order to achieve the seafood export result of 10 billion USD in 2024, it can be said that the seafood industry has received direct and close attention from the Government, the Prime Minister (such as the 30 trillion VND support package...), leaders of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, ministries, branches, and localities in orientation and direction. In addition, there is the participation of associations and businesses in the industry in organizing production, processing, constantly improving product quality, and diversifying markets.
Regarding 2025, according to Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien, there will continue to be new challenges for the fisheries industry, in which resolving the IUU yellow card, adapting to climate change, environmental pollution and market barriers will be important goals.
Although there will still be many challenges, Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien expressed his confidence: "I believe that, with the continuous efforts of businesses, along with the support of VASEP and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, we will continue to overcome these difficulties and continue to develop even more strongly.
According to Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien, the Vietnamese seafood industry has many opportunities to surpass the 10 billion USD mark in 2025, and move towards the target of 11 billion USD, in the context of improved raw material sources and expanded export markets. In particular, improving product quality and improving the reputation of businesses will help us increase market share, affirming the position of Vietnamese seafood in the international market....
