A series of projects in Ho Chi Minh City have been put into operation, promising to solve many traffic and urban problems.
On December 5, from National Highway 1, the reporter turned onto Tan Ky - Tan Quy Street (Binh Tan District, Ho Chi Minh City). After about 30 meters, a barrier appeared, occupying about 2/3 of the traffic space to serve the construction of the road leading to Tan Ky - Tan Quy Bridge.
High concentration
At both ends of the road, there are always people on duty to guide vehicles to avoid congestion. Inside the barrier, dozens of workers and engineers are busy with their work.
Mr. Hung, a worker at the construction site, said that the Tan Ky - Tan Quy bridge is expected to be completed before Tet, so everyone is working at full capacity.
"We are pouring concrete to build the approach roads on both sides of the bridge. It is a bit difficult for people to travel, but in just over a month the road will be very clear," this worker affirmed.
Along with Tan Ky - Tan Quy bridge, the project to widen the road of the same name (from Ma Lo to Binh Long) from 8 m to 30 m is basically completed. The new road still has the smell of asphalt, only a few sections from Ma Lo road to Nuoc Den canal continue to be compacted, paved with sidewalk stones, and planted with more trees.
Along with the spacious road, the houses on both sides of this western gateway area also have new looks as they are built or repaired by the people.
In the south of the city, Phuoc Long Bridge (Pham Huu Lau Street, Nha Be District) is under urgent construction to open to traffic in December. Currently, 10/10 bridge piers have been completed, 8/9 bridge spans have been installed with girders. The contractor has completed the roadbed and retaining wall in Nha Be District and is continuing construction on the remaining part in District 7.
Meet the desire
Also in the south of Ho Chi Minh City, people traveling on Nguyen Van Linh and Nguyen Huu Tho streets expressed their excitement when the remaining underpass of the Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Huu Tho intersection underpass construction project will open to traffic this December. Previously, in October 2024, the HC2 underpass branch (from Tan Thuan EPZ to Binh Chanh) was opened to traffic.
The opening of the remaining HC1 tunnel branch will solve the traffic congestion problem as well as increase traffic capacity for the southern gateway, which has very complicated traffic conditions.
Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Huu Tho underpass project
A project at the southern gateway that has come into operation is Rach Dia Bridge connecting District 7 and Nha Be District. The project, which opened to traffic on November 28, brought excitement to the people of the two localities as it helps shorten the travel time from Nha Be District to District 7 and vice versa.
Looking at the new bridge with the fast flow of vehicles, Mr. Tran Tan Suu (Nha Be district) cheerfully recalled that the old Rach Dia iron bridge was narrow, two cars could not go at the same time, and traffic jams were frequent, making it very inconvenient for people to travel. Now, according to Mr. Suu, the new bridge brings with it the many-year-long wish of the people here that has come true.
Urgent finish date
Regarding the progress of projects to be put into operation and put into service before Tet At Ty, a representative of the HCM City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (Traffic Board) said that there are 4 projects at the southern gateway.
Of which, the Rach Dia bridge construction project has been put into use; Phuoc Long bridge has reached more than 80% progress, expected to be completed in 2024. The Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Huu Tho underpass construction project has reached more than 85% progress, expected to open the HC1 tunnel branch before December 31, 2024.
In addition, the project to build and expand National Highway 50 (Binh Chanh District), nearly 7 km long, has reached 58% of the construction volume, and is expected to open a parallel section of National Highway 50, about 2 km long, in December 2024. The entire project is scheduled to be completed next year.
As for the eastern gateway, according to the Traffic Department, a plaintiff for Tang Long Bridge (Thu Duc City) is urgently under construction after clearing land obstacles to open to traffic in 2024. The contractor is laying the border span beams, then completing the bridge deck.
At the gateway to Tan Son Nhat airport, the Hoang Hoa Tham Street expansion project (from the military barracks to Hoang Hoa Tham overpass, Tan Binh district) is expected to be completed before Tet. The project will help connect Tan Son Nhat airport's T3 terminal, gradually completing the transportation network in Tan Binh district in particular and Ho Chi Minh City in general, creating momentum for economic and social development.
Regarding the project to upgrade and expand Tan Ky - Tan Quy road, the route is expected to form a traffic axis connecting National Highway 1 to the city center and Tan Son Nhat International Airport. A representative of the Traffic Department said that a section from Ma Lo to Binh Long will be completed in December 2024...
"In general, the picture of traffic infrastructure in 2024 is basically completed as planned. A series of bridges and gateway routes put into use will increase traffic capacity, helping to connect districts to the city center and Tan Son Nhat airport, making it more convenient for people to travel" - said a representative of the Traffic Department.
Many benefits
Roads and bridges at the gateways of Ho Chi Minh City that are open to traffic before the Lunar New Year 2025 will not only improve traffic capacity and urban beautification but also promote socio-economic development for the region.

Workers at the Tan Ky - Tan Quy bridge construction site guide traffic
When asked by reporters, Ms. Nguyen Thi Phan (Binh Hung Hoa ward, Binh Tan district) smiled and said that in the past, when mentioning Tan Ky - Tan Quy road, she immediately thought of the place leading to Binh Hung Hoa cemetery, cramped, dirty... but today everything is very different. "The road is wide and beautiful, the houses are spacious, the shops are luxurious and crowded. Newly built houses, rental space is more expensive, hopefully the family economy will be more stable" - Ms. Phan said excitedly.
