From an all-round excellent student and valedictorian...

Ngo Thu Ha was born and raised in Viet Tri City, Phu Tho Province. Coming from a family with a tradition of studiousness, Ha was aware of her studies from a young age. Since middle school, Ha has shown the qualities of an excellent all-round student. In 2016, Ha won the title of valedictorian of the 10th grade entrance exam at Hung Vuong High School.

During high school, in addition to being an excellent student, Ha also achieved many achievements in competitions such as: First prize in Phu Tho province in math and chemistry, second prize in Hanoi math competition, silver medal in the exchange of excellent students of specialized high schools in coastal areas and the Northern Delta, and 2 consecutive years of winning first prize in provincial level excellent students in math.

Ngo Thu Ha, the girl destined to be valedictorian

Since childhood, Ha had a dream of pursuing a medical career. Therefore, when she was in high school, Ha focused most of her time studying math, chemistry and biology to apply for university group B, with Ha's goal of entering Hanoi Medical University .

After the graduation exam, Ha became the valedictorian of the country in 2019 with 29.8 points (9.8 in math, 10 in chemistry and 10 in biology) . Ha felt that her efforts were duly rewarded.

Now Ha is a student at Hanoi Medical University.

Ha was admitted to Hanoi Medical University , majoring in Medicine. The female student chose this school to pursue her dream of a medical career.

When she entered university, Ha understood that her entrance score was not the deciding factor in her future studies. Becoming valedictorian gave her more confidence but also reminded her that this was a new journey and that she needed to do her best on the path to becoming a doctor. Being valedictorian was not the destination but just a moment that helped Ha realize how hard she had tried.

... To valedictorian in college years

During her university studies, Ha was once again awarded the title of valedictorian . She received a scholarship to encourage her studies in all semesters with good and excellent grades, in addition to the Mitsubishi scholarship for the first two years and the Da Huong scholarship for the next two years. During her first three years of university, Ha received a certificate of merit for being the valedictorian of the year, the person with the highest overall score in the class.

In addition to studying, Ha also participates in school clubs and last year was honored to join the ranks of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

However, looking back, she said that she did not want to keep the title of high school valedictorian with her, because those were just achievements of the past. She wanted to escape the shadow of the valedictorian of the past. Ha herself needed to change, study better, and constantly strive towards the future to strive to become a good doctor.

In university, Ha received the certificate of valedictorian.

Since leaving her hometown for Hanoi, Ha has been living with her sister. Up to now, Ha has been a 4-year university student. Ha's day is spent in clinical classes in the morning, theory classes in the afternoon, and one day a week, Ha goes on duty at the hospital. "The 4th year is quite difficult compared to the previous 3 years. On average, I take exams every 2 weeks, have to study new subjects and review previous ones. But I have to try hard, only 2 more years to graduate," Ha shared.

Looking back on the 4 years since being the valedictorian of the high school graduation exam, Ha has truly matured, learning a lot of knowledge and skills acquired through training at medical school.

Ha also admitted that the valedictorian only knew how to study all day long, and did not know much about soft skills or social awareness. However, Ha thought that these things could be improved when studying at university, because the new environment not only taught knowledge but also soft skills and social awareness.

According to Ha, the training during high school and being valedictorian supplemented her knowledge, which is the basic foundation that helps this female student develop on the path of studying medicine, as well as adapt to the huge amount of knowledge at university.

“I think the downside of being valedictorian at a young age is that it is easy to fall into a state of complacency, arrogance and not continue to make efforts. In addition, being valedictorian also makes it easy for people around you and yourself to expect too much from your future university results,” Ha expressed.

Ha was admitted to the Party when he was still a student.

According to Ha, being valedictorian does not help much with future jobs, because the most important thing when working is specialized knowledge and skills acquired through training in university and graduate school. That is what Ha realizes and needs to try to accumulate.

Ha also congratulated this year’s valedictorians. However, she also advised that what you need to do now is choose a suitable university, set goals and continue to learn knowledge as well as practice skills that will serve your future work.

“Let's use today's graduation exam results as motivation to continue reaching the next peaks on the path to adulthood and temporarily forget about the title of valedictorian ,” Ha said.
