According to the MRI results this morning (December 30), Ho Tan Tai did not have a torn ligament as initially feared. The player born in 1997 suffered a contusion of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.
The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) said that Ho Tan Tai does not need surgery. However, with this type of injury, Ho Tan Tai will need 6 to 8 weeks of treatment to recover. The 2024 AFF Cup (ASEAN Cup) ended early for the number 13 defender of the Vietnamese team.
Ho Tan Tai sadly looked at his right knee in a brace.
In the second leg of the semi-final against Singapore on the evening of December 29 at Viet Tri Stadium (Phu Tho), coach Kim Sang-sik was forced to withdraw three full-backs from the field due to injuries. First, Vu Van Thanh had an ankle problem. The person who replaced Van Thanh in the 70th minute was Ho Tan Tai.
Ten minutes later, it was Pham Xuan Manh's turn to leave the field. However, this player only suffered a slight pain due to muscle strain. Nguyen Van Vi came in as his replacement.
At the end of the second half, Ho Tan Tai controlled the ball in the penalty area after a pass from Van Vi. However, Ho Tan Tai's landing was not smooth, causing damage to his knee. The Vietnamese player collapsed on the field. The Vietnamese team doctor shook his head immediately after checking Ho Tan Tai's condition. He left the field after only a few minutes of play.
After the match ended, Ho Tan Tai was unable to move on his own, had to wear a leg brace and had to be carried to the car by his teammates. Tuan Hai and Duy Manh continuously encouraged his teammates. Ho Tan Tai himself appeared to be in pain and disappointment was evident on the face of the player who plays for Binh Duong Club.
