Baby Trieu An Khang was born in a poor district of Linh Ho commune, Vi Xuyen, Ha Giang. Just entering the first year of primary school, baby Khang received the news that he had lymphoma.
In May 2023, after being examined at a provincial hospital, Khang was referred to K Hospital for in-depth examination. Here, he was diagnosed with high-risk T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Khang received chemotherapy in the attack phase for about 2 months. Currently, the patient is being transferred to a consolidation chemotherapy regimen.
To date, the total cost of treatment for Khang has been about 200 million VND. During the treatment, the baby had a reaction to the medicine so we had to switch to another medicine. The most expensive medicine he needed to treat cost more than 40 million VND (50% covered by insurance).
Because the treatment regimen requires a very long hospital stay (80% of the time), Khang is currently on leave from school. According to Dr. Hoang Thu Trang, Deputy Head of the Pediatric Internal Medicine Department, the treatment is expected to take nearly 3 years to complete. Therefore, the amount of money needed for treatment and medicine is very large.
The family no longer has enough financial means to continue treatment for their son. Khang's mother hopes that the community will lend a helping hand so that Khang has another chance to live.
When mentioning her son, Ms. Nguyen Thi Trang (Khang's mother)'s eyes filled with tears. After selling all the livestock in the house including 2 buffaloes, 10 pigs and borrowing nearly 100 million VND from relatives, teachers and school staff, she spent it all on her son's treatment.
Because of the family's extremely difficult circumstances, for a long time, the mother and son had to rent a house near the hospital to take care of each other. Khang's father works as a construction worker, and the youngest brother, who is not yet 2 years old, is left to the grandparents to take care of.
"The family's entire income depends on the father's salary, which is only a few million VND per month. Now the doctor says there is still hope for Khang's illness, but he will have to undergo chemotherapy for nearly 3 more years, requiring a large amount of money, and my husband and I do not know how to save our child. I hope everyone will help so that the family can see our child every day," Trang asked for help.
Now, lying on a hospital bed, Khang waits day and night for the opportunity to receive treatment. The will to live and return to his family is always evident in the hopeful eyes of this 8-year-old boy.
Faced with Khang's extremely difficult situation, in addition to the old debt, he needs an additional 300 million for treatment. K Hospital hopes that benefactors will join hands to share with the child so that he can continue to hope for a better life ahead.
According to information from the leaders of Linh Ho Commune People's Committee, Trieu An Khang's family is poor and in dire circumstances. The local authorities have also created favorable conditions to support and visit the family, but the amount of money for Khang's treatment is beyond the family's means. The people have only been able to help by borrowing money to support a part.
