On April 1, the painting exhibition "Huynh Phuong Dong's Journey" opened at the Ho Chi Minh City Exhibition Hall, District 1.

The exhibition is jointly organized by the City Museum, the family of artist Huynh Phuong Dong and SANN - The House of Art to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).

The exhibition displays 700 representative works selected from more than 3,000 works by the late artist. The content of the works clearly shows his creative journey - sketches of landscapes, portraits of cadres, soldiers, guerrillas during wartime, images recording major battles such as the Binh Gia Campaign, La Nga...

In addition, the exhibition also introduces paintings about the peaceful period, the country's construction, the artist's creative trips across the country and international trips.

At the ceremony, Ms. Doan Thi Trang, Director of Ho Chi Minh City Museum, said that the exhibition is not only an opportunity for the public to admire valuable works of art but also an opportunity to connect the past and the present, honoring the historical and cultural values that the late artist Huynh Phuong Dong recorded throughout his life. The works exhibited this time by the late artist Huynh Phuong Dong are a valuable source of documents about the resistance war, expressing the aesthetic thinking and national spirit of the artist on the battlefield.

She hopes the exhibition will create a special cultural heritage space for artisans and artists to have a space to enjoy works of art right in the heart of the city.

Mrs. Le Thi Thu, the late artist’s wife, said that throughout his 90 years of life, 70 years of his studies, artist Huynh Phuong Dong created and contributed to the Fatherland and had a fulfilling life, full of painting. “As his comrade and wife who accompanied him for 58 years, more than anyone else, I am extremely proud.

The Huynh Phuong Dong Journey exhibition series is a gift that his family gave him on the occasion of his 100th birthday,” said Ms. Le Thi Thu. The late artist Huynh Phuong Dong (1925-2015), whose birth name was Huynh Cong Nhan, was born in Gia Dinh (now Ho Chi Minh City), originally from Soc Trang. He was an artist-soldier who participated in two resistance wars against the French and the Americans.

With more than 70 years of dedicated creation, he left behind many works of great artistic and historical value, becoming precious heritages of Vietnamese fine arts.

The exhibition "Huynh Phuong Dong's Journey" takes place until May 28 at the Ho Chi Minh City Exhibition Hall, 92 Le Thanh Ton, District 1.

During its first week in Ho Chi Minh City, the exhibition is open to guests by appointment only. From April 6, the exhibition will welcome the public with an expected 500 visitors per day.
