Unique at the beginning of the year: Thousands of people go to the market to "fight" each other for luck in Thanh Hoa
Every year on the 6th day of Tet, thousands of people flock to the unique market that only meets once a year in Thanh Hoa to "fight" each other for good luck.
On the morning of February 3 (the 6th day of Tet), thousands of people flocked to the empty land along the Hoang River (in Thanh Hoa City, Thanh Hoa Province) to participate in a unique "fighting" market, praying for good luck in the new year.
This is the most unusual market in Thanh Hoa, which only takes place one day a year. The market takes place on a riverside plot of land, about 3,000 square meters wide, bordering the former Dong Son district (now Thanh Hoa city) and Trieu Son district, Thanh Hoa province.
This unique market is often called by many names such as "choang market", "chuong market", "giai xuoi market", "lucky market"... People who come to the market will have tomatoes, eggs... thrown at each other to pray for luck. Even if they don't know each other, everyone is happy to have tomatoes thrown at them. Because, according to belief, the more tomatoes thrown at someone, the luckier they will be that year.
Thousands of people braved the rain to attend the "unique" "fight" market for luck in Thanh Hoa on the 6th day of Tet.
In addition to tomatoes, which are sold the most as "weapons" for fighting, Chuong market also sells many "homegrown" products such as: gac rice paper, rice rolls, rice cakes, vegetables, fruits...
Although this year the weather is rainy and very cold, thousands of people still flock to the "one of a kind" market in Thanh Hoa to "fight" each other for good luck.

According to legend, Chuong market dates back to the Lam Son uprising. Once, the insurgents were chased by the Ming invaders to the banks of the Hoang River and had no way to retreat. To hide the insurgents, the villagers gathered at the riverbank to hold a market.
The generals and soldiers were disguised as farmers, and their weapons were hidden in vegetable piles and stalls. When the enemy troops arrived, they saw the crowded market and were not on guard. Taking advantage of the moment when they were off guard, the commanding general launched a counterattack. With the unity, intelligence and bravery of the army and people, the enemy was routed.
Moved by the villagers' help, the king gave them a lot of gold, silver, rice and corn as generous rewards.
Since then, to commemorate this event, every year people organize the Chuong market on the 6th day of Lunar New Year with a mock fight as a traditional cultural feature.
