Airlines add more seats to 'hot' routes

According to the latest report of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, in the recent period, domestic airlines have continuously "wet leased" 15 aircraft (short-term lease contracts, possibly with flight crews) to put into operation to increase service during the Lunar New Year peak.

As a result, some local routes have become less "hot" compared to last week and some days still have seats available. Specifically, the Ho Chi Minh City - Buon Ma Thuot flight booking rate for the days from February 3 to 5 is at 76 - 83%, the Ho Chi Minh City - Tuy Hoa flight on February 2 (70%), February 8 (85%) and February 9 (72%) passengers can still buy tickets. Similarly, the Ho Chi Minh City - Quy Nhon flight on February 3 and 9, the booking rate is at 76 - 78%. The Ho Chi Minh City - Vinh flight on February 9, the new booking rate is at 67%.

However, the booking rate on the Ho Chi Minh City - Hanoi route during this period began to increase, evenly distributed throughout the days with a rate of 56 - 73%.

Flights from Ho Chi Minh City to other localities have very high booking rates, spread over the days from February 2 to 9, including: Ho Chi Minh City - Hai Phong (from 85 - 98%), Ho Chi Minh City - Hue (from 86 - 99%), Ho Chi Minh City - Pleiku (from 88 - 99%), Ho Chi Minh City - Thanh Hoa (from 85 - 96%), Ho Chi Minh City - Chu Lai (from 92 - 98%), Ho Chi Minh City - Quang Binh (from 89 - 103%), Ho Chi Minh City - Vinh (from 90 - 98%).

On the other hand, during this period, the booking rate for flights from localities to Ho Chi Minh City was very low, averaging 20-30%, with many flights being empty (ferries). The Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City route only achieved an average rate of about 30%.

Also according to the Civil Aviation Authority, in the period after Tet from February 13 to 18 (January 4 to 9), flights from local airports to Ho Chi Minh City had high booking rates, with some routes sold out in a few days. For example, people in Buon Ma Thuot - Ho Chi Minh City (ranging from 75 to 100%), Ca Mau - Ho Chi Minh City (from 80 - 100%), Hai Phong - Ho Chi Minh City (reaching 87 -99%), Hue - Ho Chi Minh City (82 - 99%), Pleiku - Ho Chi Minh City (from 88 - 100%), Tuy Hoa - Ho Chi Minh City (94 - 99%), Thanh Hoa - Ho Chi Minh City (83 - 100%), Quy Nhon - Ho Chi Minh City (from 95 - 100%), Chu Lai - Ho Chi Minh City (from 97 - 100%), Dong Hoi - Ho Chi Minh City (from 95 - 100%), Vinh - Ho Chi Minh City (from 80 - 100%).

During this period, the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City route is also "hot". Except for February 13, this rate only reached over 56%, the remaining days were filled with over 80% of seats. On February 17 - 18, this rate was 94%.

"The Civil Aviation Authority is continuing to direct and coordinate with airlines and airports to supplement capacity, with an expected 2-3 flights per day on some routes from Ho Chi Minh City to localities with high demand," said a representative of the Civil Aviation Authority.

Since the beginning of January, airlines have increased their "wet leasing" of aircraft, so in recent days, many passengers have been surprised when they buy tickets from Vietnamese airlines but are served by foreign aircraft and crews. For example, passengers who buy Vietnam Airlines tickets can be transported by Avion Express aircraft, those who buy Bamboo Airways tickets can fly with FlyOne Armenia... or those who buy Vietjet tickets can fly with FreeBrid Airlines.
