On March 11, the administration of South Korean President Choi Sang Mok said that President Donald Trump's "America First" policy has begun to target South Korea.

Choi said South Korea is holding discussions with the United States on tariff measures, as well as strengthening bilateral cooperation in the energy and shipbuilding sectors before the reciprocal tariffs take effect on April 2.
The move comes after President Trump threatened to impose reciprocal tariffs on all US trading partners globally from April 2.
“The South Korean government will consider national interests and respond with a ‘cool head and flexibility’, and devote all its efforts to finding a mutually beneficial agreement between South Korea and the United States,” Choi said at a cabinet meeting on March 11.
The statement from South Korea comes amid a number of internal crises as people are increasingly concerned about the possibility of violent conflict ahead of the Constitutional Court's "important ruling" regarding impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol.
Regarding US tariffs, Japanese Trade Minister Yoji Muto announced on March 10 that he had asked the US to exempt his country from trade tariffs.
In trying to persuade Mr. Trump to exempt Japanese cars and other products from tariffs, Mr. Muto and senior Japanese officials emphasized that Tokyo is a close economic partner that has invested heavily in the U.S. economy and created millions of jobs.
However, Mr. Muto said he had not received any commitments from Washington, including the 25% tariff on steel and aluminum scheduled to take effect on March 12, according to Reuters.
“We have not received any response that Japan will be exempted,” Mr. Muto said after a meeting with US officials in Washington.
Japan revealed that Washington has acknowledged the contributions of Japanese businesses to the US economy, but did not mention further the stance of its US partners.
