Import and export flourish
Statistics from the Quang Tri Customs Department show that in the first quarter of 2024, import-export, immigration and transit activities in the area increased.
Accumulated from the beginning of the year to March 15, 2024, Quang Tri Customs Department recorded 64,675 vehicles entering and exiting the country, an increase of 16.67%, 164,308 passengers entering and exiting the country, an increase of 18.67%. The unit processed 2,999 declarations, an increase of 11.99%; turnover reached nearly 197 million USD, an increase of 35.03%; cargo weight reached over 756 thousand tons, an increase of 47.41%. In addition, during the period, the unit processed 4,521 transit declarations, an increase of 26.67% compared to the first quarter of 2023, worth nearly 1.4 billion USD, an increase of 10.17%, with a total cargo weight of over 657 thousand tons, an increase of 23.73%.
For example, at La Lay Border Gate Customs Branch, in the first quarter of 2024, the total number of vehicles entering and exiting the country reached 20,361, an increase of 2.66%; 52,829 passengers entering and exiting the country, an increase of 25.69%; the total number of import and export declarations was 556, an increase of 7.54%; import and export turnover was 50.359 million USD, an increase of 41.88%; the weight of goods reached 415,442 tons, an increase of 53.01%.
Talking to reporters of Customs Magazine, the leader of La Lay Border Gate Customs Branch (Quang Tri Customs Department) said that in order to facilitate import and export activities, the Branch has regularly met and grasped the production and business situation of enterprises, thereby answering and removing arising problems, contributing to promoting import and export activities through the area.
“Since the beginning of March 2024, import and export activities through the area have improved. On average, there are about 300 vehicles entering and exiting the area every day. Of which, imported coal and exported petroleum are the two items that have a great impact on the growth in declarations, turnover, and volume of goods passing through the area. For imported coal alone, the Sub-Department handles procedures for about 8,000-10,000 tons/day. At the same time, when the amount of imported coal is stable, the amount of exported petroleum increases due to the demand for coal mining in Laos," the representative of the La Lay Border Gate Customs Sub-Department added.
Previously, in December 2023, La Lay Border Gate Customs Branch completed and officially put into operation the "Immigration and exit vehicle management software system of Hoanh Son Group Joint Stock Company at La Lay Border Gate Customs Branch". Using the software reduces 3-6 minutes/1 customs clearance for each vehicle. Each vehicle is given a management code (QR code). Customs officers use a code scanning device to monitor, the software system will automatically search for all information indicators related to the import and exit vehicle and display it on the interface for customs officers to compare, then confirm customs clearance.
At Lao Bao Border Gate Customs Branch, in the first quarter of 2024, the Branch processed 2,011 import-export declarations, an increase of 12.47%; import-export turnover reached 116.842 million USD, an increase of 35.16%; import-export weight reached 209.93 thousand tons, an increase of 28.48%.
At Cua Viet Port Customs Branch, the Branch processed 432 declarations, up 15.8%; cargo weight reached 131 thousand tons, up 67.56%; import-export turnover reached 29.7 million USD, up 24.4%.
Side by side with business development
Recently, at the 2024 Business Dialogue Conference organized by the Quang Tri Customs Department, Director Tran Manh Cuong said that the unit identified accompanying businesses as a requirement and responsibility to support businesses to overcome difficulties, contributing to promoting and developing the socio-economy in the area. The Customs sector in general and the Quang Tri Customs Department in particular always strive to reform administration, creating maximum convenience for people and businesses in import-export and immigration activities. At the same time, it hopes that businesses will continue to participate in the reform, modernization and digital transformation process of the Customs sector, with the goal of Customs-Businesses accompanying, cooperating and developing together.
In the future, Quang Tri Customs Department will report to the General Department of Customs for guidance on regulations on customs operation areas and recognition of customs inspection locations when the Project begins to operate. At the same time, continue to coordinate in implementing the construction and installation of infrastructure systems and equipment to serve the process of customs inspection and supervision and support import and export activities at the Port Area according to regulations, and at the same time support MTIP to complete the Project investment objectives approved by competent authorities.
My Thuy International Port Joint Stock Company (MTIP) has officially announced the commencement of construction of My Thuy seaport on March 25, 2024.
It is known that Quang Tri Customs Department has established a Research Team to implement customs management activities at My Thuy International Port and assigned specific responsibilities to members of the Team in researching and coordinating with MTIP to implement necessary procedures for port construction. At the same time, directing the staff departments and Cua Viet Port Customs Branch to actively guide the project investor on basic and necessary requirements and standards for customs management in accordance with the current design of the Project.
The My Thuy Port Construction Investment Project is a dynamic project of special importance to Quang Tri province, a gateway to the East Sea on the East-West Economic Corridor. This is a deep-water seaport, with a very favorable location to act as a transit hub for goods on the East-West Economic Corridor, especially when goods through La Lay international border gate have tended to increase sharply in recent times.
To contribute with the management agencies of Quang Tri province to facilitate the implementation of the Project, Quang Tri Customs Department has proactively researched relevant customs legal regulations and provided information to businesses.
