Guardiola instructs Everton players

Coach Pep Guardiola met directly with and advised center back Yerry Mina to give up his petty ways, after Man City beat Everton 3-0 in the Premier League on the evening of May 14.

After the match at Goodison Park, Guardiola sought out Mina. The Man City manager waved his hand as he spoke to the Everton centre-back. Guardiola did not reveal the content of the conversation, but told reporters at a press conference afterwards: "Ask him. Mina did things that were unnecessary. He does that with every player, in every game. He is good enough to avoid those situations."

According to the Daily Mail , Guardiola was furious with Mina's dirty play. Earlier, the Colombian centre-back had wrestled Erling Haaland and clashed with Aymeric Laporte, but did not receive a booking.

Asked about the suggestion that Mina was fouling frequently, Everton manager Sean Dyche quipped: "Guardiola must have been very astute to see that, because Mina hasn't played for weeks. Every manager has their own way of doing things."

Man City beat Everton with a brace from Ilkay Gundogan and a goal from Haaland. The German midfielder headed the visitors ahead in the 37th minute. Just two minutes later, Haaland made it 2-0 with another header. Gundogan's free-kick six minutes into the second half sealed a 3-0 win.

This is a major step forward for Man City in the title race. They currently lead the Premier League with 85 points after 35 games, four points ahead of second-placed Arsenal and have played one game less. If they beat Chelsea at the Etihad on May 21, Man City could be crowned champions two games early.

Man City had a chance to win the title early thanks in part to Arsenal "shooting themselves in the foot". A few hours after the Everton - Man City match, the "Gunners" lost 0-3 to Brighton right at the Emirates Stadium. This was their second home defeat in the Premier League this season, after a 1-3 defeat to Man City in February.
