Earlier this year, the appearance of the MV “Bac Bling” by Hoa Minzy created a unique phenomenon. The female singer not only brought Bac Ninh Quan Ho - an intangible cultural heritage of humanity into a modern remix, but also collaborated with famous names such as artist Xuan Hinh, producer Masew and Tuan Cry to bring a product that is both imbued with national identity and full of modern spirit. Not only creating a strong effect on online platforms with tens of millions of views on YouTube, “Bac Bling” is also highly appreciated by leaders and experts.

On March 24, at the Government Headquarters, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired a dialogue with outstanding Vietnamese youth on the occasion of the 94th anniversary of the founding of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (March 26, 1931 - March 26, 2025). At this event, the presence of many young artists such as Hoa Minzy, Duc Phuc, Erik... not only made the atmosphere more exciting but also affirmed the role of art in connecting tradition with modernity.
At the dialogue, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his joy that the young generation not only preserves but also revives national culture through creative products reaching international standards. The Prime Minister especially praised the MV "Bac Bling" by Hoa Minzy, because it is a clear demonstration of the intersection between tradition and modernity, both imbued with Vietnamese identity and full of modernity. The Prime Minister hopes that this product will soon reach 100 million views, affirming that national culture, when skillfully conveyed, will always have a strong vitality in the hearts of the public.

The official Fanpage of Government Information also praised the MV: “Bac Bling (Bac Ninh) has contributed to the internationalization of advanced culture, imbued with Vietnamese identity, to the world, while at the same time nationalizing human civilization in our country”. This further affirms the profound influence of the product not only in the entertainment field but also in promoting Vietnamese culture in the international arena.
Not only in music, the trend of combining tradition with modernity is spreading strongly in many other fields such as fashion, cinema, digital art and game shows. Collections of modernized ao dai with strong folk imprints, films exploiting historical themes or television programs that evoke national spirit are increasingly receiving attention. For example, works imbued with traditional culture by Hoang Thuy Linh, singer Kieu Anh, the concert "Anh trai vu ngan cong gai" held on March 22, 2025 in Ho Chi Minh City attracted thousands of people wearing traditional costumes such as ao dai, ao nhat binh, ao tu than... This event is not only a music night but also sets a Guinness World Record for the largest number of people wearing traditional Vietnamese costumes.

In a broader sense, we are living in an era where traditional culture does not only exist in books or educational TV shows but also permeates every corner of our lives. TikTok videos on how to properly wear Ao Dai, mashups between traditional instruments and EDM, and rap songs inspired by folk songs… all prove that traditional culture is not being lost but is only changing to better suit the breath of the times.
There have been many opinions that traditional culture is gradually developing in a positive direction. Tran Van Minh (25 years old, living in Ha Tinh City) shared: “I think young people are not turning their backs on traditional culture, but they are looking for a new approach to make it closer and more interesting to modern life. The ways of doing things of young artists in many fields of literature and art are both proving that and creating a good "trend" for young people."

Not only young people, many seniors also clearly feel the transformation of traditional culture in modern life. As a retired teacher, Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong (65 years old, living in Ha Tinh city) commented: “I used to worry that young people today only care about new things and forget traditional culture, but in reality that is not the case. I am very happy to see many young people wearing Ao Dai walking around the streets, learning about ancient culture or simply learning how to wrap Banh Chung. That shows that tradition is still in the hearts of the young generation, it is just that the way they express it has changed.”

National culture always retains its values, what is important is how we preserve and promote those values. Preserving culture does not mean framing it in the past but bringing it into the present and future with new approaches. What is happening shows that tradition and modernity are not opposed to each other but can go together to create a new cultural appearance that both preserves the national soul and is suitable for contemporary life. To promote that, it requires not only the efforts of artists or those working in the cultural field but also the participation of everyone, especially the young generation.
Today’s youth are not only the beneficiaries of culture, but they are also the ones who create, renew and spread it in the most creative ways. Therefore, instead of worrying that traditional values will be lost, let’s trust in the young people - the “fire keepers” of the new era. They are continuing to write the story of culture with their passion, love and creativity of youth.
