Each publication is like a piece of a puzzle that brings readers to the whole picture of the historic Dien Bien Phu campaign. These are pages of novels filled with the atmosphere of battle; pages of poems praising the spirit of Dien Bien Phu soldiers; short stories recreating the moments and people participating in the campaign with a heart yearning for independence and freedom for the country; and pages of vivid diaries about the progress of the Dien Bien Phu campaign...
Among the publications released this time, there is a special book: “Sketches in the trenches” - War diary of a young soldier in the Dien Bien Phu campaign by artist and war reporter Pham Thanh Tam. The Vietnamese edition uses design materials and images from the English edition Drawing Under Fire: War diary of a young Vietnamese artist published in 2005. The entire diary of artist Pham Thanh Tam is retyped from a copy of the artist's 1954 diary, provided by Asia Ink Publishing House. This is the first time the book has been published in Vietnam.
Ms. Vu Thi Quynh Lien - Editor-in-Chief of Kim Dong Publishing House shared: "The diary is a valuable historical document with a unique and emotional way of expressing the Dien Bien Phu campaign. We believe that the book will help young readers better understand the heroic past of the nation, the courage and endurance of Uncle Ho's soldiers, thereby further appreciating and being grateful for the sacrifices of our ancestors for the independence of the nation.
